Jack Butland is being linked with a move back to the Premier League this summer. The 26-year-old has been playing in the Championship this season with Stoke City, but with the Potters having failed to secure an instant return to the top flight it looks likely that they will not be able to keep hold of the shot stopper.
Despite having played a full season in the second tier, Butland has so far managed to retain his place in Gareth Southgate's England squad. But with the manager recently suggesting that Jack Grealish needed to be playing in the Premier League before being considered for selection, another season in the Championship looks out of the question for the former Birmingham City goalkeeper if he is to continue being selected.
And he himself has admitted that he needs to be playing in the Premier League, in an interview with talkSPORT. He said: "I always will and always have given everything to the club, but I need to be in the Premier League"
"I tried to get the club back there, but I know where I need to be, to be in this squad, and if something arises that is the right thing for me I have to seriously consider it."
Those quotes suggest that he is extremely keen to move away from the bet365 Stadium this summer, but where will he go? Well according to the bookmakers, it seems like one club in particular is keen to acquire his services.
Bournemouth odds-on to secure Butland transfer
AFC Bournemouth are the favourites to sign Butland from Stoke this summer, with Sky Bet offering odds of 2/7 for the England man to move to the Vitality Stadium.
A new goalkeeper is high on Eddie Howe's list of priorities for this transfer window, with Asmir Begovic having fallen out of favour and 39-year-old Artur Boruc now out of contract.
And it is thought that he had pinpointed Butland and Burnley's Nick Pope as his two main targets. But with the latter now having signed a new long-term contract with the Clarets, it leaves Butland as the remaining option.
One potential stumbling block for a deal could be Stoke City's extremely high valuation of the player however. It is thought that the Potters want a fee of around £30 million for the 26-year-old, which would mean that Bournemouth would have to break their transfer record to sign him.
In an effort to get around this, Howe may look at offering Begovic as part of a player-plus-cash deal. The Bosnian is of course a former Stoke City player, representing them between 2010-15 before moving on to Chelsea. If he moved the other way, it could be a move that suits all parties as he gets first team football, Butland heads back to the Premier League whilst Stoke don't have to worry about finding his replacement.
BetVictor have currently got odds of 4/5 for Begovic to move to Stoke available, so they too think that he could be part of a deal which allows Butland join the south coast club.
