During an awards ceremony on Sunday evening which saw Kylian Mbappe handed the Ligue 1 Player of the Year award, one outcome came as a surprise, worrying fans of PSG over the future over the club's rising star.
In reaching another landmark in his career at just twenty years of age, Mbappe appeared to register it as the end of a chapter rather than being the start of something spectacular. He told everyone at the ceremony: "It is maybe the moment to have more responsibilities, maybe at PSG, with pleasure, or elsewhere for a new project. In any case - thanks everyone!"
A backlash from his comments transpired immediately after, where he was forced into explaining himself. Rather than clearly stating that he would still be a PSG player next season, Kylian Mbappe only added further fuel to the fire. He said: "I said what I had to say. When you are in such an occasion, you can send messages - I think I have sent mine. If I speak more, it will be too much, and this is not the message I wish to send."
Bookmakers are covering where he could choose to move if he does leave PSG this summer, and it's already clear to see the most likely options based on each club's financial muscle and the need for a star signing in the next transfer window.
Real Madrid favourites to sign Kylian Mbappe at 2/1
There's been no change on BetVictor regarding the odds surrounding the Spanish giants signing the Frenchman this summer, but it appears that the long-standing 2/1 price for Real Madrid to sign Kylian Mbappe has more than enough truth behind it.
The return of Zinedine Zidane hasn't necessarily been met with improved performances, Real Madrid losing their final game of the season 2-0 at home to Real Betis. With Gareth Bale expected to be shown the exit door, the club are in need a big-money signing to prompt the start of a new era at the Bernabeu, and Kylian Mbappe would fit the mould to a tee.
Odds for a possible Kylian Mbappe transfer linked him to both Real Madrid and Manchester City, but Pep Guardiola's side are now 8/1, putting them down as third favourites behind Liverpool, who are a surprisingly short 4/1 behind Real Madrid. Nobody fails to recognise the strength of Manchester City's financial backing but a bid from Liverpool would be a massive surprise, even if they have reportedly enquired about him in the past.
As things stand, Sky Bet only offer prices on Real Madrid at 2/1 or Manchester United at 16/1, but BetVictor are covering all bases. Barcelona, Manchester United and the option of Any Chinese Club are all given 12/1 odds, followed closely by Chelsea and Juventus, who both possess a 14/1 price. Changes are expected to occur in the coming weeks, as all of Bayern Munich, AC Milan, Inter Milan, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are priced at 16/1.
