19/20 Premier League relegation transfers

Relegation from the Premier League is a tough pill to swallow.

The implications are somewhat unprecedented in the modern game, particularly from a financial point of view. Those that go down will face a serious deterioration of annual revenue, making player sales very likely, as the players aim to stay in the top-flight.

Those from above will be looking at the clubs as potential raiding opportunities, so we've looked into some players that will be drawing in high volumes of interest.

Take a read below and let us know your thoughts and see who our followers chose here.

Nathan Ake

Since joining Bournemouth for a club record fee back in 2017, Nathan Ake has been an integral part of Eddie Howe's overachieving side.

The defender has gone onto make 17 appearances for the Netherlands since his debut with the Cherries, a statistic that highlights his progression in recent years. At just 25, Ake still has room to grow and he is already considered as an established Premier League centre-back that could no doubt perform for a top 10 side.

An added bonus of Ake's game is that he is left-footed, making him a valuable asset in the transfer window. Partnered next to a right-footer, the Dutchman has the potential to implant some balance to any team's backline, particularly given his ball-playing abilities.

The latter point is significant in the betting odds, with Manchester City being the huge outright favourite for his signature at 1/6. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was capturing hinting at signing the Dutchman earlier in the month, but the Red Devils have a big underdog price of 14/1.

Chelsea and Wolves are in the middle at 7/1 and 12/1 respectively. The former may be ones to watch though, as they have a buy-back clause for their former player.

Emiliano Buendía

Despite Norwich's rather disastrous league campaign, they still managed to conjure up a few moments of quality, most of which came in the shape of Emiliano Buendía.

The Argentinian has caught the eye this season, coming inside from the flanks and causing havoc in the final third. Buendia ranks fourth in the division for average number of key passes per game and also fourth for the number of dribbles per game. Plus, with seven assists to his name, he has been one of the most creative figures in the country.

Even as a squad option, the Norwich star would certainly improve the attacking fortunes of most clubs in the Premier League, particularly those in mid-table needing a boost.

Max Aarons

On the topic of Norwich, another player that will likely be in hot demand is Max Aarons.

The Englishman's name often props up when it comes to transfer talk, having once been considered one of the most promising full-backs in the country.

Aarons' debut season in the top-flight hasn't been perfect from a defensive standpoint, as Norwich were relegated some time ago. However, with 36 appearances to his name, this season has served as an important learning curve for Aarons, who has gained experience against some of the league's top forwards.

Clubs are always on the lookout for shrewd full-back signings, and the 20-year-old will certainly be on many radars this summer. According to Sky Sports News, Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich are interested and the German giants usually get what they want - watch this space.

Abdoulaye Doucouré

It may come as a surprise to many Premier League fans to see Abdoulaye Doucouré still in a Watford shirt.

The midfielder was rumoured with a move to both Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur after his incredible 17/18 season, but he remained put at Vicarage Road, despite the fact he probably could have moved.

Operating in the middle, the Frenchman has been one of the first names on the teamsheet under all seven of his managers. Over the past three campaigns, he has missed just five league games. Doucoure is an all-rounded figure, flourishing as the box-to-box midfielder in the three of a midfield.

As opposed to being scouted as a squad option, many clubs in the top-flight will be identifying Doucouré as a starter. Teams like Everton and even Leicester City could do with bolstering out their midfield options, and the 27-year-old will be looking for a move to sides of this pedigree.

Troy Deeney

Mr Watford himself.

Troy Deeney has been with the Hornets for the past decade and whilst it may feel strange to envision him representing any other club, there will be interest in his services.

The 32-year-old guarantees goals over the course of a season - a valuable trait for any club, particularly those that are coming up. Deeney has registered 22 across all competitions since the start of the 18/19 campaign, and his bullish style of play is always a tough one for opponents to try and nullify.

"I honestly don't know if this is going to be my last game at Watford or in the Premier League," were the words of the club captain after their relegation was confirmed which has inevitably sparking transfer rumours.

With Paddy Power, Burnley are the 9/4 favourites to sign the Englishman, as Sean Dyche does love a forward of this profile. Spurs have a surprise price of 5/1 making them next in line, whilst Aston Villa have been given rather generous odds of 9/1.

Newcastle have severely lacked goals this season, so many punters may fancy Deeney's odds of 10/1 to make the move to Tyneside.

Callum Wilson

Football is all about ups and downs, something Callum Wilson knows all about.

Just 18 months ago, the striker made his England debut, scoring against the United States of America. In doing so, he became the first-ever Bournemouth player to score for the Three Lions. Fast forward to the present day, however, and he is heading to the Championship and down in the second tier, it's tough to make an argument for an England return.

Wilson has been with the Cherries for all five of their seasons in the Premier League, registering 35 goals in the division. The striker is a clinical finisher inside the area, producing numbers in a side that has been starved of creativity on the ball this year.

At 28, he is perfectly poised to make a move elsewhere and continue playing at the top level and revitalise his career with the national team.

No doubt any mid-table side will want to wrap him up and perhaps Wilson could even find himself closer to the Europa League setup, with Jamie Vardy now 33 at Leicester.
