Besiktas vs Rizespor

Besiktas welcome Rizespor in the Turkish Super League on Monday night as two underachieving sides go head-to-head at Vodafone Park in Istanbul in a pivotal clash.

Besiktas currently sit seventh in the division after four wins from nine matches, but a win in midweek would get them back in contention and into the top four in the Turkish top-flight. Away side Rizespor are in horrendous form and have won just once this term. That record has left them in the bottom three in the division, but a win here could get them out of the drop zone and into 14th position, leapfrogging European giants Fenerbahce, who currently sit one place above the away side on nine points.

Besiktas have endured somewhat of an underwhelming season so far under the management of Şenol Güneş and the Turkish Super Ligue giants currently sit seventh in the division. Besiktas have totalled 15 points from nine matches, but a win here could get them into the all-important top four places, whilst a loss could be disastrous for their title hopes. Bitter rivals Galatasaray are one step ahead of them in their progression and Besiktas fans despise the fact their fierce rivals won this league last time out and are demanding a response this time around.

Besiktas aren’t exactly in great form going into the match on their home patch and Güneş’ side haven’t won in four-straight matches in all competitions. Their last tie came in the Europa League against Genk, which ended in a 4-2 loss on home soil and prior to that Besiktas lost 2-0 away to Goztepe in the league. Their best result from October came in an uninspiring 2-2 draw against Konyaspor, but one result prior saw them lose 2-0 against Malmo FF. One positive for the home fans has been their team’s clear ability to score or threaten the goal and despite sitting in seventh, Besiktas have still scored 15 goals, which is more than top of the table Basaksehir. The hosts to score 3+ goals in this one is 11/10 with Sky Bet, whilst the win is 3/10 with William Hill. A -1 handicap win for Gunes’ side is arguably a better bet, which can be found at 4/5 with Sky Bet also.

The hosts have a chance to put things right in this match, but they’ll have to contend with a couple of injuries to their side, with Adem Ljajic, Tolgay Arslan and Brazilian defender Adriano all potentially out injured. Spearheading the Besiktas attacks will be former Liverpool attacker and Dutch international, who already has four goals this term and will be in search of another goal here. Babel to score the first goal is priced at 4/1 with Sky Bet, whilst a goal over the 90 minutes is an attractive 13/10.

Rizespor were promoted to the Super Ligue after securing promotion from the Turkish second division at the end of last season, but their first season back in the division hasn’t exactly gone to plan, with Monday’s away side currently sat in the relegation zone. Okan Buruk’s side have won just once this term, whilst also drawing on five occasions, which is the second most draws in the division. Another draw in this one against a struggling Besiktas is priced at 9/2 with William Hill, whilst a much-needed away win for the side who haven’t beaten Besiktas since 2014 can be found as high as 10/1 with Unibet.

Last time out, Rizespor drew 1-1 with Konyaspor and prior to that Buruk’s team drew 2-2 with Kayserispor. Those two matches marked an impressive run of four wins undefeated and that must continue this week if they hope to avoid a loss of confidence in their important season, whilst also aspiring to move up the division. Like Besiktas, Rizespor will be without a few players, with Bryan Samudio and Abdullah Durak both suspended, whilst Musa Cagiran could miss out with a knee problem. Spearheading the attacks up front will be Vedat Muriqi and a goal in 90 minutes is 4/1 with Sky Bet.

Rizespor may be struggling in the league this season so far, but Buruk’s side aren’t exactly short of goals and it is believed that a win here for the away side might also include both teams to score. That bet is priced at a huge 18/1 Bet 365, whilst the wise bet here could be Rizespor double chance, which is priced at 11/4, also with Bet365.
