PSG vs Lille

The top two in France go head to head on Friday when leaders Paris Saint-Germain welcome Lille to the Parc des Princes. The hosts have an eight point advantage over their nearest rivals, but Lille has been one of the surprise packages in Ligue 1 this term.

PSG’s 2-0 win last weekend at the Stade Velodrome against bitter rivals Marseille in a vitriolic atmosphere, maintained Thomas Tuchel’s sides unbeaten start to the campaign. The Parisian’s have also been prolific in front of their own fans this season, having scored ten without reply in their last two at the Parc des Princes. Last weekend, Tuchel even had the luxury of keeping French superstar Kylian Mbappe out of the starting XI for disciplinary reasons, but the youngster changed the game when he came on to score the opener with virtually his first touch of the contest.

The 19-year-old World Cup winner is the league’s top marksman so far with ten and Unibet price him at 3/1 to be the first goalscorer on Friday or if you prefer, 13/20 to score in the 90 minutes. If Mbappe doesn’t punish you, then it seems Neymar will. The Brazilian’s eight goals (three penalties) make him Ligue 1’s third best in front of goal so far this season.

The champions have won six of the last seven meetings between the two sides and the corresponding fixture last season ended in a 3-1 win the club from the capital, and they also ran out comfortable 3-0 winners in the reverse game at the Stade Pierre Mauroy.

April 2012 is the last time Lille tasted victory over Friday’s hosts, but they come into this game having won their last four league matches, which has catapulted Christophe Galtier’s men into second spot. Striker Jonathan Bamba is the club’s current top scorer with seven, but the 22-year-old hasn’t netted since early October in a 3-1 win over Saint-Etienne, and all his goals have come at home; a statistic Galtier is desperate to change.

The youngster is being offered at 3/1 by Betfair to break his duck in the capital on Friday and at 10/1 to open the scoring.  The better value may be with Rafael Leao, who scored Lille’s winner last time out against Caen. The 19-year-old Portuguese striker is 7/2 with Betfair to get his name on the scoresheet in Paris.

There has only ever been one goalless draw between these two in their last 13 league meetings and that statistic is unlikely to change this time around, with only the visitors having been involved in a shutout so far this season and that came in week two against Monaco.
