EFL Trophy Round-Up: 13/11/2018

Walsall vs Port Vale

League One Walsall welcome League Two Port Vale to the Bescot Stadium on Tuesday evening in the EFL Trophy opener. The hosts beat Coventry City 3-2 in the FA Cup last weekend, whilst Vale were beaten by Walsall’s promotion rivals in League One as they were defeated 2-1 by Sunderland. A win here for either side could cement their place in the knockout stages, whilst a loss could undo all of their impressive hard work. A win for the hots and Group E leaders Walsall is odds of 3/4 with William Hill, whilst the draw is 13/5 with the same bookmaker and an away win for the travelling Port Vale is 4/1 with Betfair.

Recommended bet: Over 2.5 goals @ 7/8 with Bet Victor – BET HERE

Barnsley vs Bradford City

Group F see’s second place Barnsley play their game in hand against a struggling Bradford at Oakwell on Tuesday evening. The hosts have won both matches against Oldham and Everton’s youth side and a win here is priced at short odds of 4/11 with Bet 365, whilst the draw for the first time since 2005 between these two sides is 4/1 – also with Bet 365. Bradford are in dismal form and before a 1-1 draw with Aldershot in the FA Cup first-round at the weekend, David Hopkin’s side were on a losing streak of seven matches – and a win here unlikely, which is evident in Bradford’s odds of 7/1 to win here with Bet Victor.

Recommended bet: Kieffer Moore to score first @ 3/1 with Bet 365 – BET HERE

Blackpool vs Accrington Stanley

A struggling Blackpool return to EFL Trophy in pursuit of their first win in the competition as they welcome Group C leaders and the impressive Accrington Stanley – who could even wrap a place in the knockout stages up with a draw here. That draw is odds of 12/5 with William Hill, but Blackpool will be confident of winning here, extending their unbeaten run against Accrington to four matches, after back-to-back wins against Gillingham in League One and more recently against Exeter in the FA Cup – who they beat 3-2 in emphatic style. Blackpool to win here is attractive odds of 11/10 with Bet Victor, but Stanley are unbeaten in four matches and have actually only lost once in eight matches. John Coleman’s traveling side are odds of 23/10 win here and after impressing across all competitions, that price looks an attractive one.

Recommended bet: Accrington Stanley to win @23/10 with William Hill – BET HERE

Exeter vs Bristol Rovers

The impressive League Two side Exeter play their second cup match in three days as they take on Group L leaders Bristol Rovers in the Checkatrade Trophy in what is the decisive tie in the group stages. The game is more or less a straight shoot-out in pursuit of a place in the knockout rounds and after back-to-back wins in the two matches they’ve played, a price of 17/10 with Bet 365 for Rovers looks a nice bet. The draw here would mark only the third between the two teams since 2010 and that result is 9/4 with Betfair – whilst Exeter to win is reasonably long odds of 16/11 with William Hill after the hosts have went without a win in five.

Recommended bet: Under 2.5 goals @ 4/5 with Betfair – BET HERE

Grimsby vs Newcastle Under-23’s

League Two strugglers Grimsby Town return to Blundell Park this week to take on Premier League Newcastle’s youth side in the EFL Trophy. The hosts are still more than capable of qualification into the knockout stages, but will have to defy the odds against an unbeaten Newcastle who have won both games and have conceded just once. The hosts were beaten by second place Doncaster by a 2-0 score-line last time out and a win here is priced at 13/10 with William Hill, whilst the draw is 5/2 with the same bookmaker. Newcastle will be confident of winning this one to seal qualification – which would be extremely impressive given their young side and that three points is odds of 11/5 with Bet 365 – which we think could be a good bet here.

Recommended bet: Newcastle Under-23’s to win and btts @ 4/1 with Sky Bet – BET HERE

Mansfield vs Scunthorpe United

Group H leaders Mansfield take on second place Scunthorpe as the League Two hosts take on the lively League One visitors. The match will actually be the first between the teams since 2014 and its Scunthorpe who have won back-to-back matches in the last two – but they’ll have to be at their best here if they hope to impose themselves on their fourth-tier opponents and a win for Scunthorpe is odds of evens with Betfair, whilst the draw is 12/5 with the same bookmaker. The hosts will be confident of winning here after finding some form as of late and a 12-game unbeaten streak will be the benchmark they look to continue to meet. Despite being in fine form, Mansfield are still eye-catching odds of 19/10 with Unibet here – which is certainly a bet we like the look of.

Recommended bet: Both teams to score @ 3/5 with Betway – BET HERE

Morecambe vs Sunderland

Sunderland make their first ever trip to Glove Arena on Tuesday evening as they play their second cup match in two days against the struggling Morecambe side. Jack Ross’ Black Cats could seal qualification for the knockout stages with a win here and a seven-game winning streak has them as odds on favourites here at 3/4 with Betway. Morecambe are in dreadful form in all competitions and an unlikely win here is 3/1 with Unibet, whilst the draw is 11/4 with Bet 365. The Black Cats are likely to make wholesale changes here with their Scottish manager no doubt keen to make use of his deep squad – which will no doubt make for an interesting game in only the second meeting between these two sides.

Recommended bet: Josh Maja to score anytime @ evens with Bet 365 – BET HERE

Newport County vs Plymouth Argyle

Two of the struggling sides from Group K go to battle at the Newport Stadium on Tuesday as Newport play Plymouth in an all-important fixture in the EFL Trophy. The hosts sit third and are priced at 4/5 with Bet 365 to win here and after a 2-0 win away to the Metropolitan Police in the FA Cup first-round on Saturday, they’ll be confident of doing so. The sides last met back in 2017 in League Two and it was Argyle who ran out emphatic 6-1 winners – and County will be desperate for redemption here. However, a recent 1-0 win in the FA Cup for Plymouth against another League Two side in Stevenage will have Derek Adams’ side full of confidence and 3/1 for Argyle to win with William Hill is certainly attractive odds – whilst the draw is also eye-catching at 3/1 with Bet 365.

Recommended bet: Over 2.5 goals @ 8/11 with William Hill – BET HERE

Peterborough United vs Luton Town

Two of the eye-catching sides from League One clash in the EFL Trophy at the ABAX Stadium on Tuesday night as Steve Evans’ Peterborough take on Nathan Jones’ Luton in a decisive tie which comes from Group P. The away side top the table after two wins and are already all-but through, something which could suit a second-place Peterborough side who need a win to take one step closer towards qualification. The sides have already met once this season in the corresponding fixture in the third tier and it was Evans’ men who won 3-1. The same result here is attractive odds of 6/5 with Bet 365, whilst the draw for the first time since 2005 Is 5/2 with William Hill. Luton will be more than confident of extending their lead at the top of the group after going five matches unbeaten – with four of those ending in wins and a win for the Londoners is 15/8 with Unibet.

Recommended bet: Peterborough to win 3-1 @ 15/1 with Bet Victor – BET HERE

Portsmouth vs Tottenham Under-23’s

The top two sides in Group I play their third match in the EFL Trophy at Fratton Park on Tuesday evening as the exciting and impressive Portsmouth look to wrap up qualification with a win over Tottenham Under-23’s. Kenny Jackett’s side have won back-to-back matches against Crawley and fellow League One side Gillingham and will be confident of winning here – especially after impressing in their third-tier season for the majority. A win here is odds of evens with Bet 365, whilst the draw is 5/2 with Unibet. Tottenham’s youngsters are 27/10 with Bet Victor to win here and after back-to-back losses to Derby and Swansea in the Premier League Two campaign – they’ll be desperate for a response.

Recommended bet: Portsmouth to win 2-1 @ 8/1 with Bet 365 – BET HERE
