West Brom vs Aston Villa

Two of the Skybet Championship’s form teams go head to head on Friday as West Bromwich Albion welcome Aston Villa to The Hawthorns. Monday night’s 1-1 home draw with Brentford ended a run of three successive wins for Darren Moore’s men, including a 4-1 battering of high-flying Leeds United. The visitors have lost just once since Dean Smith replaced Steve Bruce at the helm and were recently involved in that thrilling 5-5 draw with Nottingham Forest. West Brom has only won one of the last four meetings between the two and last time they met in the league, the game ended in a goalless draw back in January 2016.

West Brom are the division’s top goalscorers with 42 and their main man in front of goal is Jay Rodriguez who has nine. The 29-year-old is 21/10 with Coral to get his side’s first goal on Friday and 4/1 to get the final goal of the evening. Only Hull City and Wigan Athletic have prevented The Baggies from scoring this term and there’s good news from the infirmary for Moore, with Bakary Sako expected to return to the side after a three-week lay-off; the Malian has only made two appearances for the Baggies since signing on a free transfer until the end of the season, they being the draw with Blackburn and the defeat at Hull.

Welsh international Hal Robson-Kanu, who came off at half-time against Brentford with concussion is unlikely to make the starting XI with Moore explaining that he will not make a final decision until 24 hours before kick-off. Dwight Gayle is expected to deputise.

Aston Villa arrive at The Hawthorns having rifled in 17 goals in their last five games. If you’re looking for entertainment, then Villa Park is the place to go and the player who is spearheading the attack is former Chelsea youth player Tammy Abraham, who has 11 for the season so far. Ladbrokes offer 11/8 for the youngster to be an anytime goalscorer on Friday and have Villa at 19/10 to win the game. There are reports suggesting that Chelsea may ask for Abraham to return in January, despite the two clubs agreeing a season-long loan.

The last time The Villains failed to score in a league game was on October 26 at Queens Park Rangers, but Smith will want to see his defence tighten up having already conceded 30 for the season so far; the worst of any of the top ten sides in the division.
