Ajax vs Go Ahead Eagles Betting Preview – 31/10/2018

Ajax vs Go Ahead Eagles

Ajax will be looking to go one step closer to winning back the Dutch Cup from reigning champions Feyenoord when they welcome Go Ahead Eagles to the Johan Cruijff Arena in the Netherlands capital on Wednesday evening. The hosts are in their usual devastating form in all competitions, whilst Eagles will be desperate to beat their opponents for the first time ever after seven attempts without success in seven years of head-to-head matches.

Dutch giants Ajax have been their usual phenomenal self across all competitions this season so far and Erik ten Hag’s side currently sit second, just five points behind rivals PSV. This week sees the title hopeful’s attentions turn to the Dutch Cup and they’ll be confident of beating Go Ahead Eagles, the side they have never lost against, to reach the next round of the important domestic competition.

Ajax are huge favourites at 1/11 with Betway, but after scoring 23 goals in the past seven games in all competitions, which has also included a 7-0 victory over HVV Te Werve and a 5-0 win over Alkmaar, we think the game to have over 4.5 goals in this one at 6/5 with Sky Bet is an attractive bet. Over 3.5 goals is also an attractive bet at 8/15 with the same bookmaker.

Ajax have also kept a clean sheet for the past four games in all competitions and a win to nil here is 6/10 with Ladbrokes. Surprisingly, Ajax actually score most of their goals in the second half of matches, which has been evident this term and Eagles to score first is an attractive 17/2 with Ladbrokes, which could certainly happen if ten Hag’s side were to come into the match with some complacency or tiredness from their hectic Eredivisie schedule.

John Stegeman’s Go Ahead Eagles have been impressive this term and hopes of promotion back to the Dutch top-flight remains very much a reality as they currently sit first in the second tier. However, there is little doubt that they face a tough task this week against a side they have never beaten and that is evident in their odds to win the match of 33/1 with Bet Victor.

However, Eagles do come into the match in good form after a 2-0 win against Cambuur last time out and before that they beat Almere 1-0 away from home. Like Ajax, Eagles have been excellent in defence this season and an unexpected clean sheet is priced at a huge 25/1 with Sky Bet.

We think the away side could actually grab something from this game if they were to ride out the early wave from Ajax and draw no bet for Stegeman’s side is 20/1 with Sky Bet.
