Bournemouth vs Brighton

The New Year is upon us and approaching this weekend is the Third Round of the FA Cup, one fixture taking place will be held at the Vitality Stadium as Brighton take on Bournemouth. Eddie Howe will be looking for the victory on Saturday as he aims to better his side’s progress last year which saw them tumble out of the third round against Wigan Athletic. Brighton had much more success than their opponents in the FA Cup last year as they found themselves progressing all the way to the quarter-finals, where they were eventually knocked out by Manchester United. This should have the making of a tight affair with both sides sat next to each other in the Premier League table.

Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth had made a terrific start to the season but have had some trouble securing wins over the last couple of months, with just two to show from eleven league matches. However, the Cherries do arrive at this match as favourites to take the ‘W’ with odds of 19/20 at SkyBet, Betway and Bet365. Bournemouth have been very weak at the back in recent games and over the last five fixtures have conceded 14 goals. Their previous three fixtures have seen them conceded 3+ goals, which makes an over 2.5 goals market very tempting especially when Bet365 have it priced at 21/20.

As well as conceding numerous goals, the lack of their own goals being scored has caused serious problems for Bournemouth and Eddie Howe is need of another goalscorer. Callum Wilson remains the sides highest scoring player with ten goals and you can back him to add to his tally on the weekend for a price of 13/8 with Betway. Nathan Ake has shown his aerial threat in the last two games bagging two goals and has a price of 10/1 with Betway, to get on the scoresheet again. The Cherries hold a great record against Brighton and haven’t lost since 2008, their last meeting ended 2-0 and SkyBet have a repeat result priced at 8/1.

Chris Hughton will realise that Bournemouth have been a bogey team for his side over the last several years, but he will fancy his chances since his opposition is in poor form. The Seagulls have secured just one win from their last five matches, but remain unbeaten in their last three and can be backed to win at a huge 11/4 with Bet365 – which seems like very generous odds. Like their opponents, Brighton can be prone to conceding goals and three of their last five fixtures have seen both teams score. A BTTS market seems to be a safe one to go for and Betway has BTTS at 17/20.

Brighton tends to struggle in the goals department and over the course of the season have scored just 24 goals, which makes them the second lowest scoring side out of the top 13 sides. Glenn Murray has been his side’s talisman this season and with eight goals he is their top goalscorer. However, he finds himself in a six-game goal drought and Bet365 have the forward to score anytime at 15/8.
