Brighton vs Chelsea Betting Preview – 16/12/2018

Brighton vs Chelsea

Chelsea, fresh from inflicting a first defeat of the season for Manchester City last weekend, travels to the South-Coast on Sunday to face Brighton & Hove Albion. The Seagulls are still smarting from their 1-0 defeat at Turf Moor against Burnley last weekend which brought to an end a run of three league games without defeat. Skybet makes the home side a 13/2 shot this weekend and it’s easy to see why, as Brighton hasn’t beaten Chelsea in any competition since 1933. Last season’s corresponding fixture ended in an emphatic 4-0 win for the visitors with the reverse fixture at Stamford Bridge also finishing in a win for the West London side.

Brighton currently sit in 13th place in the Premier League and they have veteran striker Glenn Murray to thank for that. The 35-year-old’s eight goals so far have been worth nine points to the Seagulls which is the joint highest total alongside Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Everton’s Richarlison. Skybet price him at 9/4 to be on target against Chelsea and 12/1 for him to score two or more.

Boss Chris Hughton seems to be constantly linked with other managerial vacancies but the former Republic of Ireland international continues to state that he’s happy at the AMEX Stadium and that he has no intention of leaving in the near future.

The Seagull’s have one of the best defensive records of teams in the lower half of the Premier League having only seen their net breached 22 times so far this campaign. Hughton is now looking for someone to help out Murray at the other end of the field to try to improve their current tally of 19 goals for the season so far.

Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri has only used 20 players in the Premier League so far this season; only Wolves (18) have used less. With the Italian tactician comes goals however and no team has shared them around more than the Blues with 12 different players on target so far this term.

In Belgian international star Eden Hazard they have a player who is bang in form. The 27-year-old has provided four assists in his last three Premier League matches and if he provides another on Sunday, he will become the first Chelsea player since Cesc Fabregas in September 2014, to assist in four consecutive league games.

Bet365 has the visitors at 4/9 to take home all three points on Sunday but there is better value to be had with Chelsea to win and over 2.5 goals to be scored (6/5).
