Bristol City vs Millwall

Sunday afternoon Championship action comes from Ashton Gate Stadium this weekend and the match is a big one, as hosts Bristol City take on Millwall. City are in 14th, but sit just six point outside of the playoff places – which is evidence of just how tight the second-tier is this campaign – and Millwall are in 21st, just one spot outside of the bottom three and need a big win to propel them away from the dreaded drop zone. The tie is the 20th match these sides have played this term and the second meeting of the year, with the last tie being the reverse fixture back in April of last season.

Lee Johnson’s Bristol City will be desperate to end a six-year wait for a win over Millwall with what would be a big win over their opponents on Sunday afternoon. The hosts are an attractive price at 12/11 with Betway and after a brilliant 3-2 win away to Ipswich in midweek at Portman Road, they’ll be full confident of doing so. The tie against the Tractor Boys was brilliant and another five goals here is unlikely, but over 2.5 goals is a bet we like at 11/10 with Betfair, whilst over 3.5 goals is priced at 11/4 with Bet365. Prior to their midweek win, Bristol hadn’t picked up a point in the Championship in five matches, something that the home fans who are expected to pack out the Gate will be hoping they’ve bounced back from. Their two wins prior to that horrific run came against two former Premier League sides; Hull City and Stoke City – both of which ended 1-0 – and the same scoreline here is 13/2 with Bet Victor.

Spearheading the City attacks will be talisman Andreas Weimann, who has five goals this season. However, the former Derby County and Aston Villa man will have to bounce back from a poor run of games without a goal and the forward is 9/2 to score first with Ladbrokes in this match. Alongside Weimann in attack will be the impressive Famara Diedhiou and after scoring in Bristol’s recent tie, the striker looks like a good bet at 9/2 to score first with Sky Bet. Other standout bets we like for the match include both teams to score, which is 9/11 with Unibet and Bristol City draw no bet @ 4/9 with Paddy Power.

Neil Harris’ Millwall currently sit just one place above the bottom three in the Championship in 21st place and desperately need to end a four-game run without a win against Bristol City on Sunday. The visitors could even find themselves in the bottom three come kick-off if either Hull or Bolton are to pick up a point or three, but if both sides lose, the tie at Ashton Gate could be a huge chance to put some distance between themselves and the dreaded drop zone – whilst also boosting squad morale after a tough 19 matches. The side from London are a big 3/1 to win here with William Hill and having not won on the road all season, it is obvious to see why they are such a big price.

Talisman Lee Gregory will be desperate to fire the Lions to victory here and five goals this campaign certainly suggests he is more than good enough to do so. However, his last goals came in late-October and a four-game goal-drought is perhaps the reasoning for the 30-year-old being big odds of 6/1 with Ladbrokes to score the first goal here. Shaun Williams is also a threat having scored three goals this term and the Irishman is a huge 25/1 with Bet365 to notch first. Other standout bets we like in this one are Millwall +1 handicap at 8/11, Millwall draw no bet at 13/8 and Millwall to score one goal at 1/2 – all with Sky Bet.
