Cardiff City vs Liverpool

Sunday sees the quintessential “huge at both ends” game, with Cardiff battling relegation and visitors Liverpool gunning for the title. Jurgen Klopp’s men have won eight games in a row in all competitions and will fully back themselves to win their last four games to put maximum pressure on their rivals Manchester City, while Cardiff recorded a vitally important 2-0 win over Brighton at the AMEX on Tuesday night, giving themselves a real lifeline in their battle for survival.

It’s difficult to overstate quite how important Cardiff’s win over Brighton was on Tuesday night. They’ve now moved just two points from the Seagulls, while a loss or even a draw would’ve left them hopelessly adrift with a difficult run-in. Now, they’ve got every chance, and as Nathaniel Mendez-Laing and Sean Morrison scored well-taken goals, they’ll have taken confidence and give themselves hope of an upset here – it was only a couple of weeks since they matched Chelsea, only losing after severely questionable officiating.

However, Cardiff had lost five of their last six before that and have only won six of 17 games on home soil so far. Given their opponents form and quality, this is a tall order, while key defender Sol Bamba’s long term absence doesn’t help, while Callum Patterson is also out, with Harry Arter, Jazz Richards and Aron Gunnarson all facing a battle to be fit. Their top scorer, Victor Camarasa, has just five league goals – he can be backed at long odds of 6/1 with Bet365 to score anytime.

Visitors Liverpool recorded an emphatic 4-1 win away at potential Portuguese champions Porto, making short work of their progress to the semi-final. But while they exploited gaps on the break impressively, the scoreline doesn’t tell the whole story as they had to withstand serious Porto pressure in the early stages, surviving a number of shots at their goal. Still, it’s now eight wins in a row and the possibility of a Premier League and Champions League double doesn’t appear completely out of the question. Their squad also looks in good shape. Mohamed Salah has ended his goal drought and has scored in three of his last four appearances, while Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino are also looking dangerous. Salah can be backed at 10/11 with SkyBet to score anytime.

Key man Joe Gomez reappeared off the bench having spent months out with injury, and – widely considered Virgil Van Dijk’s best partner – could make them even stronger at the back during the run-in. Expect some rotations from Klopp as he looks to a huge month ahead – Naby Keita and Jordan Henderson weren’t in the starting line-up in Porto and could come back in here, while Firmino only appeared for the second half. The Reds are priced at 9/10 with BetVictor to win to nil, which could be worth backing given they’ve kept 18 clean sheets from 34 games so far.
