Cardiff vs Wolves

Nuno Espirito Santo takes his Wolves side to the Welsh capital for Friday Night Football in front of the Sky cameras trying to arrest the slide following another defeat on Sunday.

It could be a contrast of styles with Neil Warnock’s Cardiff a more direct side with an up-and-at-them approach, while the visitors are more easy on the eye with the Portuguese flair that Santo has instilled since he took over from Paul Lambert.

Cardiff sit in the relegation zone ahead of this game but a win could propel them up to 15th place. Of the eight points they’ve collected, seven of them have been in front of their home faithful and despite that fact, they are priced up at 29/10 with Bet Victor to record their third win of the season.

The Bluebirds haven’t scored many goals this season, only Southampton, Huddersfield and Crystal Palace have scored fewer, however, nine of the 11 goals they have scored have been here at the Cardiff City Stadium. Callum Paterson is the clubs top scorer with three goals and they’ve all come in his last five appearances.

The Scot is 3/1 to score anytime in this game with Betfair while Sol Bamba will add some aerial threat from set-pieces. He’s got two goals to his name, including the late winner against Brighton. The defender could be one to look at finding his way on to the scoresheet and he’s 12/1 with Unibet.

After a bright start to the season that saw just one defeat in their opening eight games, Wolves have lost four of their last five following Sunday’s 2-0 defeat against Huddersfield. Raul Jimenez came the closest in netting for Wolves in that game when having his header cleared off the line by Philip Billing. That was their only real chance with them being stifled by the Terriers for the majority of that.

Espirito Santo’s side have picked up eight points on their travels, including 1-1 draws at Old Trafford and the Emirates. When these sides met here in the Championship last season, the visitors claimed the three points with a narrow 1-0 win and with their league position in 11th, that’s why they are 6/5 with William Hill to win this match.

Wolves have scored 12 goals and have fared better in the second half of matches with ten of those goals coming from the 46th minute onwards. Mexican Jimenez has three goals and is 2/1 to score in this match with Betway. Portuguese pairing Ruben Neves and Ivan Cavaleiro both have two each, so could feature in the Cardiff final third to pose the Bluebirds a threat. Goals would be expected with four of Cardiff’s seven home games seeing both teams finding the back of the net and that angle has won in two of Wolves’ last three matches on their top-flight return.
