Celtic vs Valencia Betting Preview – 14/02/2019

Celtic vs Valencia

Celtic welcome La Liga outfit Valencia to Celtic Park this Thursday for their Europa League Round of 32 first leg tie. The Scots come into this one having won seven games on the bounce, but they still come into this one as underdogs with Valencia possessing the stronger squad. Los Che are priced at a slim 21/20 to win this one with Bet365.

Celtic have clawed their way into their usual position of control having had to go the hard way this season. The Bhoys faced a real battle from the likes of arch rivals Rangers early on in the season but a fine run of form of late has seen them put a six-point buffer between themselves and their city rivals. That points gap is still a little lower than they have been used to in recent seasons, but they remain very much in control of the title race having won their last seven games on the bounce. In that sort of form and with Coral pricing them at 12/5 to win on a European night at Parkhead, they may well be worth backing here, especially given Valencia’s indifferent form.

James Forrest has been Celtic’s main danger man this season, scoring nine league goals thus far. He’s at 11/4 with Bet365 to score any time here. Odsonne Edouard has also managed that total and he may be worth backing at 7/1 to score first with Betfair. Ryan Christie and Scott Sinclair are also worth watching and the latter is at 3/1 to score with Bet365 having scored last time out.

Valencia have endured a mixed season, failing to meet the standards set in last season’s excellent campaign. They currently find themselves eighth in the La Liga table despite finishing as high as fourth last term. They are six points behind the pace set by Sevilla, who currently occupy the final Champions League spot. Los Che come into this one struggling for form having drawn all of their last three games, albeit one of those stalemates came in a 2-2 draw with league-leaders Barcelona. They also drew with Real Betis in the Copa Del Rey semi-final and Real Sociedad in the league. Their last win came in a thrilling win over local rivals Villarreal. It’s a little surprising that Valencia are priced at 21/20 to win given their patchy recent form, so it may be worth considering a draw at 12/5 with Sky Bet. Valencia are in this stage of the competition having been eliminated from the Champions League, finishing third in their group behind Juventus and Manchester United.

Long-serving midfielder Dani Parejo, who has recently been awarded with a new contract, is Valencia’s leading scorer with six league goals. He’s at 11/4 to score here with Bet365. Kevin Gameiro is more likely to find the net, according to the bookmakers at 2/1 with Unibet having scored three league goals this season. The out of form Santi Mina is at 12/5 to score.
