Championship Round-Up: 01/09/2018

Birmingham vs Queens Park Rangers

Gary Monk’s side are without a league win in 8 games, but they will fancy their chances against under pressure manager Steve McClaren’s QPR side who sit 22nd in the table, despite a positive result in the previous weekend. QPR edged out Wigan 1-0 with a debut goal from on loan striker Tomar Hemed who signed from Premier League side, Brighton, and the Israeli will be looking to continue that good form alongside his new strike partner in Nahki Wells who also made his debut at the weekend. Birmingham picked up a point at Nottingham Forest last weekend but will felt hard done by having been 2-0 before goals from Joe Lolley and Daryl Murphy snatching Forest a point.

Recommended Bet: Both teams to score YES at 9/10 with BetfairBET HERE

Brentford vs Nottingham Forest

Brentford’s challenging start to the season continues as they face Aitor Karanka’s Nottingham Forest side who come into the game full of confidence, having beaten Newcastle 3-1 in the Carabao Cup in midweek. With an 100% record at home so far this season, Brentford will be confident that they can get an all important 3 points that can propel them into the play-off positions. Gil Dias is the danger man for Nottingham Forest, after arriving on loan from French side Monaco, the youngster has shown glimpses of his quality and did just that as he scored the 3rd goal with a delightful chip to secure Forest’s progression to the next round.

Recommended Bet: Lewis Grabban to score anytime at 13/2 with Bet365BET HERE

Hull City vs Derby County

This will be the sides 2nd meeting in the space of 5 days as they faced each other at the KC Stadium in the Carabao Cup, in which Frank Lampard’s side ran out convincing 4-0 winners, with goals from Martyn Waghorn, an own goal and a Mason Mount brace seeing Derby progress to the next round. Nigel Adkins made several changes to his squad that day and is likely to recall Jarred Bowan, Reece Burke, David Marshall and Stephen Kingsley as they sat out the defeat in midweek. Tom Lawrence and Scott Carson are likely to be recalled for this game, as they also sat out the game in midweek. Lawrence has been in sincilating form this season, scoring 3 times in his 5 appearances. Derby have also won their last 2 league games 2-0, so they will be hoping for another impressive defensive display.

Recommended Bet: Derby to win to nil at 10/3 with Bet365BET HERE

Preston North End vs Bolton Wanderers

Phil Parkinson couldn’t have wished for a better start to the season, as they sit 3rd in the Championship table, and despite being outplayed by Sheffield United last weekend, a game in which they lost 3-0, the fans certainly have a reason to be optimistic coming into this one. Josh Magennis has been in good form, scoring twice since his summer move from League 1 side, Charlton Athletic. Preston have endured a disappointing start to their 2018/2019 campaign as their only win of the season came back on the 1st game of the season when they edged out QPR 1-0. They have since suffered 3 league defeats but come into this game off the back of a shock 2-0 win over Leeds at Elland Road in the Carabao Cup, despite playing the majority of the game with only 10 men. Brandon Barker stole the show with a stunning individual goal to double Preston’s lead and will be hopeful of continuing his good form.

Reading vs Sheffield Wednesday

Reading will be looking to get their first win of the season against another struggling side in the Championship this season, in Sheffield Wednesday. Paul Clement’s side stole an unlikely point away to Aston Villa, courtesy of a Sam Baldock injury-time penalty to take a point back to Berkshire. Mo Barrow and Sone Aluko are likely to return to the squad, having been rested during their Carabao Cup defeat to Watford in midweek. Sheffield Wednesday made a number of changes to the side that lost in midweek to Wolves in the Carabao Cup but after 2 league wins on the bounce, they come into this game full of confidence, despite not picking up a single point on their travels so far this season.

Sheffield United vs Aston Villa

Sheffield United come into this one off the back of a ruthless 3-0 win over Bolton, with goals from Mark Duffy, Kieron Freeman and John Fleck securing a well earned 3 points to take the home side up to 7th in the league table. Aston Villa remain unbeaten this season, but their fans will be bitterly disappointed at recent results, having drawn their last 3 league games. The most recent of draws was a 1-1 draw to relegation strugglers Reading, where they conceded an injury-time penalty to take a share of the points. Steve Bruce’s side also were stunned by League 1 Burton Albion in the Carabao Cup in midweek as they lost 1-0. However, it was a much-changed Villa side, and you can expect to see a considerable amount of players recalled for the game against Sheffield United this weekend.

Recommended Bet: Both teams to score YES at 5/6 with Bet365BET HERE

West Brom vs Stoke City

Stoke’s poor start to the season was boosted with a win over Hull last weekend, and they followed that up with an impressive 2-0 win over Premier League side Huddersfield in the Carabao Cup. Saido Berahino ended his goal drought, whilst a comical own-goal from Juninho Bacuna saw the Potters progress. West Brom have started to show glimpses of why they are one of the favourites to gain promotion at the start of the season. A 4-3 win away to Norwich, and a 7-0 thrashing of QPR shows there are no signs of a struggle for goals in the side. Jay Rodriguez has scored 4 goals in 5 appearances and will be looking to continue that good form at the weekend.

Recommended Bet: West Brom to win at 21/20 with SkyBetBET HERE

Wigan vs Rotherham

The newly promoted teams face off as Wigan take on Rotherham. Both sides currently sit mid-table and will be hoping to finish around the same position they currently occupy. Wigan come into the game after a disappointing 1-0 defeat to QPR, which gave them their first win of the season. Nick Powell and Will Grigg have each scored 3 goals this season and will be confident of scoring against a Rotherham defence that has already conceded 10 goals this season. Rotherham fought off some last-minute pressure from Millwall to run out winners, courtesy of Sean Raggett’s first half goal. They were beaten 3-1 by Everton in midweek, so they will be hopeful of providing their fans with a positive result this weekend.

Millwall vs Swansea

Graham Potter’s Swansea side haven’t won a league game in 3 games, so there is an eagerness amongst the players to overcome this poor run of form. Oliver McBurnie has scored 3 times in 5 appearances and has been a bright spark in the team this year and will be looking to add to his goal tally in this game. Millwall come into this game off the back of 2 league defeats in a row, against Sheffield Wednesday and Rotherham. They were made to work hard to overcome League 1 side, Plymouth Argyle in the Carabao Cup, as they were heading out before goals from Lee Gregory and Aiden O’Brien saw Neil Harris’ side progress to the next round.

Recommended Bet: Millwall win at 11/10 with BetfairBET HERE

Ipswich Town vs Norwich City

Sunday’s Championship action kicks off with the East Anglian derby, as Ipswich Town face Norwich City at Portman Road. Ipswich enter this fixture currently sat bottom of the table, having taken just two points from their first five matches and have had a difficult time adjusting to life under new manager Paul Hurst. However, the manager can endear himself to the club’s supporters if he is able to end Ipswich’s drought in this fixture, having failed to win in any of their last 10 meetings with Norwich. In that time, the Canaries have won six and drawn four of their encounters, though Daniel Farke’s team have had a difficult start to this season so far. They sit 18th in the table after taking just one win from their first five outings and have suffered defeats in three of their last four games in the Championship. With neither in good form, we’re going for a draw in this one.

Recommended Bet: Draw at 23/10 with SkyBetBET HERE

Bristol City vs Blackburn Rovers

Two teams that have enjoyed positive starts to the new Championship season meet at Ashton Gate on Sunday, as Bristol City host Blackburn Rovers. The Robins have lost just one of their opening five games and have a striker in terrific form in Andreas Weimann, who already has five goals in as many appearances. The Austrian scored the only goal of their contest against Swansea City last time out, doing so in the first minute of the match to win 1-0 at the Liberty Stadium, with City now coming into this game off of back-to-back wins away from home. As for Blackburn, they are currently sat in the play-off places after an unbeaten opening to their campaign. Starting with two wins and three draws, Tony Mowbray’s men have retained their resilient nature in the Championship and may well feel annoyed at having not had a win or two to their name. Winning four of their last five games in all competitions, Rovers are in terrific form coming into this contest.

Recommended Bet: Both teams to score YES at 4/5 with SkyBetBET HERE
