Championship Round-Up: Saturday 18/08/2018

Ipswich Town vs Aston Villa

With the Championship season back in full motion this Saturday, Ipswich Town host Aston Villa at Portman Road with a chance to try and secure their first win at home this season. Ipswich have not had the start they would have wanted under Paul Hurst, failing to win in any of their opening two matches. However, Aston Villa will hit the road with much higher spirits after beating both Hull City and Wigan Athletic. Villa will come into this game expecting the win having only lost to Ipswich just once in the past 10 meetings between these clubs, so the odds are stacked against Ipswich right from the start.

Wigan Athletic vs Nottingham Forest

Newly-promoted Wigan Athletic have been a surprise package so far this season, but will be faced with a tough task come Saturday when they play Nottingham Forest. Wigan have started their season with two extremely entertaining games, which had them win 3-2 in their opener at home to Sheffield Wednesday and were then beaten by Aston Villa by the same scoreline. The Latics will be looking to bounce back from successive defeats here after losing 3-1 to Rotherham in the Carabao Cup. Nottingham Forest have had better luck in recent matches after winning their League Cup tie in a penalty shootout against Bury, but even more impressively they have gone unbeaten in their first three matches. However, with two draws in that time they will be keen to build some winning momentum. After weighing up each teams recent form, we are expecting to see goals from talented outfits.

West Bromwich Albion vs Queens Park Rangers

West Brom welcome Queens Park Rangers to The Hawthorns this Saturday, as both teams look to attain three points to push themselves further up the Championship table. Both sides featured in the Carabao Cup in their most recent matches, securing wins against their lower-league opposition. The Baggies played Luton Town, which proved to be a hard worked win but Darren Moore’s side eventually got the result they needed, picking up a 1-0 victory. Rangers managed to get their first win of the season against League One side Peterborough United on the same evening, beating them 2-0 at Loftus Road. After a shaky start from Darren Moore’s team, they appear to be back on track and will be going into this clash looking for three points.

Reading vs Bolton Wanderers

Reading face Bolton Wanderers at the Madejski Stadium in would’ve likely been billed a relegation six-pointer early on in the season. Paul Clement’s Reading side have failed to secure a win in either of their opening Championship games, which has seen them lose to Derby County 2-1 and go down 1-0 at Nottingham Forest. However, they do come into this next match with some high spirits after beating Birmingham City in the first round of Carabao Cup. The Wanderers come into this Championship match-up after being knocked out of the same competition against a rampant Leeds United team. Bolton’s first game of the season saw them cause the biggest upset so far after they surprised everyone with a win at West Brom, but these are two evenly matched sides with little between them.

Recommended Bet: Draw and both teams to score at 19/5 with BetVictor – BET HERE

Bristol City vs Middlesbrough

Tony Pulis’ Middlesbrough travel to Ashton Gate to play Lee Johnson’s Bristol City in a match that looks very one sided if each team’s recent form is anything to go by. Bristol City are yet to find a win in their first three matches, with both of their two league games ending in draws and their most recent match saw them crash out of the Carabao Cup, losing to League One side Plymouth Argyle. Johnson will desperately want a win in this next game but with an opponent as strong as Middlesbrough it’s going to be a tough task. Boro’s start to the season has been a lot more successful, winning two of their opening three games in the league to put themselves at the top of the table. Pulis’ men also managed to secure a place in the second round of the Carabao Cup after beating Notts County in a tense penalty shootout. Middlesbrough will want to retain the the number one spot and should be able to see off their struggling opponents on Saturday.

Leeds United vs Rotherham United

Leeds United will want to continue their good run of form in the Championship on Saturday, as Rotherham United travel to Elland Road in an all-Yorkshire clash. Leeds United have been in inspiring form so far this season, swatting aside previous opponents Derby County 4-1 at Pride Park which now makes it two wins out of two matches for new manager Marcelo Bielsa. Rotherham should not be underestimated though, as they will also be feeling rather confident heading into this match, after beating Ipswich Town 1-0 and also beat Wigan 3-1 in the Carabao Cup. Leeds will go into this game as strong favourites as their opposition are expected to be fighting at the opposite end of the table.

Recommended Bet: Patrick Bamford to score in 90 minutes at 22/25 UniBet – BET HERE

Hull City vs Blackburn Rovers

These two outfits look to be set to battle it out towards the bottom end of the table this season, so winning a game like this would be a huge three points for either side. Hull City will face Blackburn Rovers at the KCOM Stadium with both teams still looking for their first three points of the season. Nigel Adkins has had a poor start with the Tigers, registering a loss and a draw in the opening two games and he will want to try and end this poor run of form by getting his first three points of the season on Saturday. Blackburn haven’t achieved much better, only taking one more point than Hull after drawing both of their opening games, meaning they are at least unbeaten so far which is a positive they can take into this encounter.

Recommended Bet: Hull City To Score First at 20/23 Coral – BET HERE

Sheffield United vs Norwich City

Sheffield United will face Norwich City in their fourth game of the new season at Bramall Lane. The Blades’ first two games of the new campaign ended in loses against Swansea City and Middlesbrough. which were never going to be easy games for Chris Wilder’s side but he managed to get his first win of the season beating QPR away from home 2-1. In recent news, Sheffield United’s camp has been struck with an illness affecting a couple of players including Mark Duffy. Norwich have only managed to attain one point from their opening two Championship matches leaving them down in 17th currently, although their last game showed some promise when they beat Stevenage in the Carabao Cup. Daniel Farke will look to take this positive result into this next game but we feel Sheffield United will prevail.

Millwall vs Derby County

Millwall have had a mediocre start to the new season, drawing 2-2 with Middlesbrough and followed it up with a goalless draw with Blackburn Rovers. Neil Harris will be looking to pick up his first three points when they host Frank Lampard’s Derby County on Saturday. Harris’ side were also knocked out at the first round stage of the EFL Cup after losing to Gillingham on penalties on Tuesday night. Frank Lampard has experienced highs and lows in his first few matches as a manager, winning his first game against Reading 2-1 but suffered a massive 4-1 defeat to Leeds. Both managers will be urging their players for an instant response in this next game as they will want to finish in a playoff spot by the end of the season. We believe that with the home advantage, the Lions will snatch the three points.

Recommended Bet: Millwall to win at 13/10 BetVictor – BET HERE

Preston North End vs Stoke City

Championship title favourites Stoke City are still looking for their first win of the season when they travel to Deepdale to play Preston. The home side come into this match off the back of a 3-1 win in the first round of the EFL Cup against Morecambe and Alex Neil will want to carry this momentum into what should prove to be a tough game for his side. Stoke are currently sat in a relegation spot after a poor start to a season saw them lose to Leeds 3-1 and draw to Brentford 1-1. Stoke were favourites to win the Championship title at the beginning of preseason and Rowett will need to turn around this poor run of form if he plans on mounting a challenge for a promotion spot this year. Being an important game for both sides this could prove to be a goal fest.

Recommended Bet: Over 2.5 Goals at 23/20 Bet365 – BET HERE

Brentford vs Sheffield Wednesday

Brentford will host Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday afternoon at Griffin Park looking for their second home win of the season. The Bees first match saw them face Rotherham, who they swept aside in a goal fest of a game which ended 5-1, with striker Neal Maupay bagging himself a brace. Dean Smith’s side have looked very dangerous in front of goal so far this season, with their most recent match in the Carabao Cup ending in a 4-2 to win over Southend United with four different goalscorers. Sheffield Wednesday’s season has not started in the same positive manner, securing only one point so far which came against Hull City in a 1-1 draw. The Owls have a cup tie on Thursday night against Sunderland in the second round of the Carabao Cup so it will be interesting to see if manager Josh Luhukay will rest any of his key players ahead of Sunday’s league match against Brentford. After Brentford’s recent form and attacking prowess ready yourself for a goal-packed game once again.
