Championship Round-Up: 18/09/2018

Aston Villa vs Rotherham United

Aston Villa fans will be expecting nothing short of a win as they host Rotherham on Tuesday. Steve Bruce’s side are winless in six games in all competitions and will be hopeful of getting an all-important win against a Rotherham side who come into the game full of confidence after a 1-0 win over Derby. Ryan Manning’s second-half penalty proved to be the difference as they move up to 14th place in the table. Villa have Conor Hourihane to thank as his last-gasp free kick earned Steve Bruce’s side a point. Five out of their last six games have involved both teams scoring but against a Rotherham side that have won only by a single goal on each of their wins, Villa will be hopeful of a clean sheet in this one.

Derby County vs Blackburn Rovers

If Frank Lampard wanted the worst possible game to witness against Rotherham at the weekend-he certainly got it. His Derby side were beaten 1-0 and had talisman Tom Lawrence sent off early in the second half, whilst Lampard also saw himself dismissed for a verbal exchange with the fourth official. Whilst Blackburn were denied a win after they conceded equaliser to Aston Villa to remain 13th in the table. The last five meetings between these two sides has seen less than 2.5 goals in four of those matches. With Derby’s defeat at Rotherham being the only time Lampard’s side have failed to score this season, he will be confident of his side finding the back of the net against a Blackburn side who are without a clean sheet in their last three matches.

Ipswich Town vs Brentford

Ipswich’s miserable start to the season continued as they were comfortably beaten by Hull at the weekend. Paul Hurst’s side remain winless and have tough matches against the league’s top six coming up, so it is vital that his side pick up points swiftly. They face a stiff task against a Brentford team in excellent form as they swept aside Wigan at the weekend to maintain their 100% record at home. The returning Neal Maupay was back in scintillating form with a brace against Wigan and will be confident of keeping that impressive form up against an Ipswich side who are without a clean sheet in their last nine matches.

Recommended Bet: Brentford to win and under 2.5 goals at 10/3 with Bet365 – BET HERE

Leeds United vs Preston North End

The league leaders maintained their unbeaten start to the season, as they snatched a late point as Jack Harrison’s shot found the back of the net to cancel out Jed Wallace’s opener. Marco Biesla was without a number of first-team absentees through injury including Patrick Bamford and the in-form Kemar Roofe so the Leeds faithful will be satisfied with a point against a physical Millwall team. Preston come into this game in poor form, with a 3-2 defeat at home to Reading who at the time were winless. Ryan Ledson and Ben Pearson’s red cards in previous matches shows the lack of depth within the Preston side who currently occupy one of the relegation places. They have only won once in their last six matches, which was against Leeds in the Carabao Cup as Brandon Barker stole the show with a fine solo strike. Leeds have been first to score in five of their last seven matches, a statistic that they will be confident of adding to, against a Preston side in a poor run of form.

Wigan Athletic vs Hull City

Hull ended a run of three straight defeats with a 2-0 win over bottom side Ipswich Town, courtesy of goals from Jarrod Brown and Jackson Irvine. Wigan were defeated by an in-form Brentford team at the weekend, to sit comfortably in 11th place in the Championship table. Wigan remain unbeaten at home this season and will be confident of adding to that impressive record. The last four matches between these two sides has seen a minimum of three goals in the match, so you can expect goals in this one, with both teams to score looking very likely. With the attacking threats of Will Grigg and Fraizer Campbell, they are likely to cause defenders issues throughout.

Recommended Bet: Over 2.5 goals at 4/5 with Bet365 – BET HERE

Stoke City vs Swansea City

After such a positive start to the season, Swansea are occupying the final play-off position in 6th place in the Championship, but with only one win from their last six games, Graham Potter will be hoping to turn his sides fortunes around. Oliver McBurnie has been in good form this season with four goals already in the 2018/2019 campaign. Stoke were predicted to return straight to the Premier League after their relegation last season, but they have struggled this season, managing just one league win this season. One positive for the Potters this season has been the form of new signing Benik Afobe who has netted four times already this season, which included a brace against Sheffield Wednesday at the weekend. This fixture has produced over 2.5 goals in 4 of the last 5 matches so with decent odds offered by Bet365 for this outcome, that is our tip for this match.

Recommended Bet: Under 2.5 goals at 8/11 with Bet365 – BET HERE

West Bromwich Albion vs Bristol City

Darren Moore’s side are unbeaten in three matches and are just a point off the play-off positions after a 1-1 draw away to Birmingham on Friday. Sam Johnstone saved a penalty, before Matt Phillips equalised for West Brom to earn a point but will be disappointed not to take all three points after dominating for large parts of the game. Bristol City have also been in a good run of form, winning their last four matches. Most recently, they beat Sheffield United 1-0, with Marley Watkins scoring a late winner for the home side to fire them up to 3rd in the table, just a point off top-spot which is currently occupied by Leeds. Andreas Weimann has been in excellent form for the visitors with five goals, whilst Matt Phillips is the top goalscorer for West Brom.

Recommended Bet: Over 2.5 goals and Both Teams to Score at 11/8 with Bet365 – BET HERE
