Championship Round-Up: 22/09/2018

Wigan vs Bristol City

Paul Cook’s Wigan take on Bristol City at the DW Stadium in front of the cameras on Friday’s television slot. The hosts are looking to extend their run of wins to two after beating Hull at home, whilst City are looking to get back to winning ways after a loss away to Bristol City. It’s the hosts who are the favourites at odds of 11/10 with Paddy Power, whilst the travelling side at 12/5 with Betfair. We’re favouring goals in this one, but with the hosts pipping the tie over the 90 minutes.

Recommended bet: Wigan to win and both teams to score at 11/4 with SkyBet – BET HERE

Aston Villa vs Sheffield Wednesday

Steve Bruce’s Aston Villa take on Jos Luhukay’s Sheffield Wednesday at Villa Park on Saturday afternoon, as two accomplished Championship outfits look to gain some consistency in the new season. The hosts won last time out, beating Rotherham 2-0 and Bruce’s men have looked at their best on home soil this term, but they welcome a Wednesday side who have also had their spells this season, but have recently struggled and haven’t won in two matches. That being said, the Owls are the clear underdogs here at 9/2 with Betfair, whilst Villa stand at 4/7 with Bet 365. We are backing both teams to score in this one after a feature of both sides’ seasons have been their inability to keep clean sheets.

Recommended bet: Both teams to score at 5/6 with SkyBet – BET HERE

Derby vs Brentford

Derby County play their second game at home in as many games as they welcome a Brentford side unbeaten in four matches in all competitions. Frank Lampard’s side are without a win in two and both of their recent matches have seen the hosts fail to find the back of the net. However, a win for Derby could still see them back into the playoff spots, but they face a high-flying Brentford side who have looked one of the best sides so far this term, losing just once. Lampard’s men head into the match as a 9/4 shot with Unibet, whilst Brentford look an excellent price at 13/10 with William Hill. However, we are backing the prolific Neal Maupay to get another goal in this one, after finding the back of the net eight times already this campaign.

Recommended bet: Neal Maupay to score anytime at 5/4 with Bet365 – BET HERE

Ipswich vs Bolton

Two struggling sides in the Championship clash at Portman Road this weekend, as table proper’s Ipswich take on 15th place Bolton. Both sides will be looking for a win to kick start their campaign and it was the hosts who picked up a rare point last time out with a 1-1 draw at home to rivals Brentford, whilst the travelling side were subject of a 2-0 loss to high-flying Middlesbrough. The sides are some of the lowest scorers in the league this season and after the pair have a goal a game in their last four, we are backing under 2.5 goals in this match, The hosts are priced at evens with Betway, whilst Bolton can be found at 10/3 with Bet365.

Recommended bet: Under 2.5 goals at 8/13 with Bet365 – BET HERE

Leeds vs Birmingham

High-flying Leeds United take on a struggling Birmingham side seemingly fighting relegation this season. Marcelo Bielsa’s men remain the only unbeaten outfit in the second division, with five wins and three draws this term. Birmingham have only lost twice this season, but six draws and two losses has left them in 20th spot. Garry Monk’s men saw their best performance of the season last time out against Sheffield United at Brammal Lane, but the Blues failed to convert and therefore we are picking the side who sit top of the table to win to nil in this one. Leeds are best priced at 8/11 with Paddy Power, whilst Birmingham head into the match as huge underdogs at 18/5 with William Hill.

Recommended bet: Leeds to win to nil at 15/8 with SkyBet – BET HERE

Middlesbrough vs Swansea City

It will be clash of the promotion hopefuls at the Riverside Stadium of Saturday night as Tony Pulis’ Middlesbrough take on Graham Potter’s Swansea in what is an anticipated fixture that hasn’t taken place since the 2016/17 season when both sides were in the Premier League. The corresponding fixture ended in a 3-0 win for the Boro back in 2016 and after only losing once in eight Championship fixtures this season, it is the hosts who go into the match as 8/11 favourites with Bet Victor. Despite possessing an excellent Championship squad, Swansea have struggled and after two games without a win Potter’s men, who are the clear underdogs at 9/2 with Paddy Power, sit in mid-table. We are backing goals in this one, with Boro talisman Britt Assombalonga to get on the scoresheet over 90 minutes.

Recommended bet: Britt Assombalonga to score anytime at 7/5 with Betfair – BET HERE

Nottingham Forest vs Rotherham

Nottingham Forest welcome Rotherham to the City Ground as two under- achieving sides look to climb up the Championship table with a win this weekend. Forest are the in-form side having won their last match 2-1 against Sheffield Wednesday and drawing 0-0 a game prior away to Swansea. Rotherham’s inconsistency has been the only thing holding them back in the league, but after three 1-0 wins this season, Paul Warne’s men have made a name for themselves as a tough side to beat. The hosts are priced at 4/7 with Unibet, whilst Rotherham are a huge price at 5/1, also with Unibet. We actually predict this game to be a close contest, but with talisman Lewis Grabban to be the difference, making it two goals in two games with his side.

Recommended bet: Lewis Grabban to score anytime at 5/4 with Betfair – BET HERE

Reading vs Hull City

A relegation six-pointer will ensue at the Madjeski Stadium on Saturday afternoon, as Paul Clement’s Reading side take on Hull City, managed by Nigel Adkins. The hosts, priced at 8/5 with Betway, have a huge chance to leapfrog their opposition, priced at 2/1 with Bet Victor, with a win here – but a loss for Reading could be disastrous for both league position and confidence. The Royals are the only side not to pick up a point at home this season and despite a late equaliser against Norwich City last time out, Clement’s side still managed to lose. City will be licking their lips at the prospect of points on the road and we are backing a Hull draw no bet in this one.

Recommended bet: Hull City draw no bet at evens with SkyBet – BET HERE

Sheffield United vs Preston

Chris Wilder’s Sheffield United are now unbeaten in their last five games, but after uninspiring draws in their last two, the hosts will be looking to get back on track with a win against Preston. The travelling side head into the game having not won a Championship game in three matches and a win against United will be tough, but with the corresponding fixture ending in a 1-0 victory for Preston last season, the travelling fans will be hopeful. We are backing a bit of a stalemate in this one, with neither side firing of late. Sheffield are priced at 10/11 with Betway, whilst Preston are 7/2 with Bet 365.

Recommended bet: Under 2.5 goals at 17/20 with BetVictor – BET HERE

Stoke City vs Blackburn Rovers

A resurgent Stoke City, managed by Gary Rowett, head into the ninth round of Championship matches with a tough game against Blackburn Rovers. The hosts have now gone unbeaten in their last two and have begun to make the Bet 365 stadium something of a fortress, having not lost on home turf since the middle of the opening month. The Potters are priced at evens with William Hill, but they play against an improving Blackburn side who have tightened up defensively in their recent two matches against top opposition in Derby and Aston Villa. Rovers are priced at 11/4 with Paddy Power, but we are backing both teams to score in this contest as the two sides look to make a move up the second division.

Recommended bet: Both teams to score at 4/5 with Bet365 – BET HERE

West Brom vs Millwall

The Hawthorns will host the match between West Brom and Millwall this week, a tie that has not taken place since 2004. The hosts are now looking like genuine title contenders under manager Darren Moore and after a magnificent 4-2 victory last time out against Bristol City, the Baggies will be looking to beat a struggling Millwall, who have not won in four matches, losing their last contest 2-0 away to QPR. Jay Rodriguez has been one of the football league’s most in-form forwards having bagged six in eight games and we are backing that man to do the same once again this weekend. The hosts are priced at 8/11 with Betfair, whilst 18/5 is the price for Neil Harris’ Millwall.

Recommended bet: Jay Rodriguez to score anytime at 11/8 with SkyBet – BET HERE

QPR vs Norwich City

Saturday night’s Championship action takes place at Loftus Road between QPR and Norwich City as two in-form teams go head-to-head. The hosts have been magnificent of late and are undefeated in their last four, whilst Norwich haven’t lost in three and have won their last two. Rangers’ last match ended in a 2-0 victory against Millwall and the hosts are priced at 17/11 with Unibet, whilst Daniel Farke’s City are priced at an appealing 15/8 with William Hill. We are backing over 2.5 goals in this match in front of the television cameras, with both sides looking to impress and soar up the division.

Recommended bet: Over 2.5 goals at 10/11 with Betfair – BET HERE
