Championship Round-Up: 07/08/2018

After a thrilling weekend of Championship games, another double-header is just around the corner as Nottingham Forest host West Bromwich Albion and Middlesbrough take on Sheffield United. Check out our previews and predictions below on Tuesday’s pair of games!

Nottingham Forest vs West Bromwich Albion

West Brom travel to Nottingham Forest tomorrow after being part of the biggest upset on the opening weekend which saw them lose 2-1 to Bolton Wanderers in an all round disappointing display. The Baggies are one of the favourites to be promoted back into the Premier League this season and, as such, will need to bounce back quickly to prove that the previous result was simply a one-off. There were some positives for Darren Moore to take as his team dominated the game in terms of possession and managed 20 attempts on goal, but the Baggies ultimately lacked the required cutting edge at The Hawthorns.

This evening’s visitors, Nottingham Forest travelled to Bristol City on Saturday and earned a 1-1 draw from their trip to Ashton Gate. With a record summer of spending behind them – paying around £25m for 11 new players – there are raised expectations for Nottingham Forest this term, but they were unable to get off to a winning start. Fans got to see debuts from Joao Carvalho and Diogo Goncalves, who both made promising starts, providing dangerous chances throughout the game. This meeting, which will be held at the City Ground should prove to be a thriller after both teams created plenty of chances in their opening games of the season and looked dangerous in the final third, so expect to see goals.

Recommended bet: Both teams to score YES at 10/11 with Ladbrokes

Middlesbrough vs Sheffield United

Middlesbrough’s second game of the new season will see them host Sheffield United at the Riverside Stadium. Middlesbrough’s previous outing saw them travel to The Den, where they faced a strong Millwall side in a thrilling 2-2 draw. Both teams highlighted their threat in front of goal, with the Lions enjoying the upper hand of affairs after a shaky start from Boro saw them concede twice in the first half. They left it late in second half, with Martin Braithwaite and George Friend scoring in the 87th and 97th minute respectively to earn themselves a dramatic late point.

Sheffield United kicked off their Championship campaign playing Swansea City in the Swans first game after relegation from the Premier League last season. The home side took the lead through right-back George Baldock, but allowed it to slip as Oli McBurnie and Yan Dhanda won the game for the visitors. United boss Chris Wilder will want a better result from this next game, but will be well aware of the size of the task facing them as Middlesbrough, on paper at least, look the stronger of the pair ahead of this clash.
