Chelsea vs Liverpool

Two of the Premier Leagues unbeaten sides go head to head at Stamford Bridge in Saturday’s late kick off with both sides looking to make a real statement in the Premier League title race. Coincidentally these sides played each-other just 3 days previous to this weekends fixture where Chelsea knocked Liverpool out of the Carabao Cup thanks to a late Eden Hazard strike so will be hoping for a repeat of that result in this one.

Mauricio Sarri’s Chelsea side will be looking to extend their unbeaten run this season to 9 matches when Liverpool visit the Bridge this weekend.  The Italian has got off to a good start as Chelsea manager and will know that a victory here will be a real statement of intent in one of his biggest tests in management so far.

Chelsea dropped their first points of the season last weekend in a disappointing 0-0 draw away at West Ham but still find themselves sitting in 3rd place in the Premier League table just 2 points off opponents Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table. The main aim for Sarri and Chelsea for this campaign will be getting back into the Champions League but if they can keep pace with Liverpool and Manchester City a title challenge may not be out of the question.

The form of Hazard has been massive for Chelsea this season. The Belgian has four goals in his last two matches at Stamford Bridge as well as getting the winner in the cup game in midweek so will be expected to continue his good form here. The Winger has been given more freedom under Sarri and it seems to have allowed the 27 year old to have an even bigger impact going forward. He’s currently joint top scorer in the Premier League on 5 goals in the opening 6 matches and Chelsea will look to him if they are to get anything out of this one. If you fancy Hazard to score again here he’s best priced to score anytime at 15/8 with Betfred.

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side have had a 100% start to the Premier League season so far, winning all six of their opening matches. It’s Liverpool’s best start to a Premier League season and supporters are hopeful that their wait for a Premier League title finally comes to an end. The trip to London this weekend will be Liverpool’s biggest test in the Premier League so far this season and a win here would send a real message to the rest of the League that this could finally be their year.

Liverpool were tipped as serious title contenders before a ball was even kicked this season. The signings of Allison Becker, Naby Keita, Fabinho and Xherdan Shaqiri brought a real sense of excitement around Merseyside, as they addressed the problems that had cost them so dearly over recent seasons. The signings have lived up to the hype so far however as Liverpool have scored 17 goals and conceded just 2 and have looked unstoppable at times.

The defeat to Chelsea in midweek has been the only blemish for Jurgen Klopp so far in his third full season in charge at Anfield. Chelsea made Liverpool pay for a sluggish performance towards the end of the game on Wednesday and will need to avoid that at all costs to avoid defeat again this weekend. The Reds never really looked like relinquishing their lead until Emerson’s strike on Wednesday and now a big win is needed this weekend to get back to winning ways and reassert their authority.

The fitness of Virgil Van Dijk may be the key factor in this one. Since arriving from Southampton in January the Dutchman has been immense at the back for the Reds. He’s the leader in the Liverpool backline and without him they look unorganised which could give the likes of Hazard the chance to cause havoc if he’s unavailable.

With both sides returning to their strongest starting XI’s after the Carabao cup fixture, this one could be difficult to call. Liverpool are the current favourites, best priced at 31/20 with Bet365 with Chelsea best priced at 19/20 with Betway and the draw out at 13/5. It’s a close one to call result wise so betting on goals could be the way forward here with both sides scoring freely so far this season.
