Chelsea vs Bournemouth

Chelsea take on Bournemouth in the EFL Cup quarter-finals on Wednesday evening at Stamford Bridge and the game should be an exciting one between two sides who are desperate to book a spot at Wembley Stadium. The sides have already met this season in the corresponding tie back in September and it was the hosts who ran out 2-0 victors, but Bournemouth do have previous beating Chelsea away from home when they won 3-0 last season. Bournemouth beat Norwich to get to this stage, whilst Chelsea overcame Derby.

Chelsea have been exciting under new boss Maurizio Sarri this term and this competition is a big chance for Wednesday’s hosts to advance into the semi-final and go one step closer to picking up some silverware in the first season of Sarri’s reign. They take on Bournemouth and find themselves as the 3/10 favourites with Bet 365 and rightly so after already beating their opponents 2-0 back in September in the Premier League. The same scoreline here is 6/1 with Paddy Power, whilst the hosts to keep a clean sheet is 10/11 with Sky Bet – a bet we like a lot. Two of the last three matches between these sides have also ended with over 2.5 goals and the same here is 3/5 with Betway.

The former Premier League champions are undefeated in their last three matches and have lost just one of their last four domestic fixtures, but they’ll have to be at their best here if they hope to advance against a more than capable side. Leading the line could be Olivier Giroud and after continuing his good scoring form against MOL Vidi in the Europa League with the decisive goal, the Frenchman’s price of 16/5 with Ladbrokes to score first looks to be a nice bet. Other threats in the Chelsea side include Alvaro Morata – who is 3/1 to score first, whilst Belgian star Eden Hazard is 10/3 with Betfair.

Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth have always been a likeable side since their emergence on the Premier League scene, but the Cherries have a real chance to progress as a club if they can manage to get their hands on silverware in the EFL Cup this year. They play Chelsea on the road in the quarter-final on Wednesday night and obviously head into the match as the big underdogs at 10/1 with Unibet, whilst the draw is 9/2 with Paddy Power. However, that price isn’t a horrendous price considering Howe’s side beat Chelsea 3-0 at Stamford Bridge in the meeting before last and Bournemouth double chance is a bet we like at 13/5 with Bet Victor.

The visitors’ task will be made even more difficult with consideration to recent results in the Premier League – and aside from a 2-1 home win against Huddersfield the Cherries have lost each of their other six matches. Howe’s side did beat Norwich 2-1 in the last round and it was Junior Stanislas who grabbed all the headlines that night in October. The winger is a huge 20/1 with Bet365 to score first, whilst Jermain Defoe is no stranger of goals against Chelsea and looks a good bet at 12/1 with Boylesports to bag first. Joshua King is a lively forward and could cause some problems and he is another bet we like to score first at 14/1 with Betway – but the most obvious threat is Callum Wilson – who is 21/2 with Bet Victor to net first.
