Chelsea vs Fulham

Claudio Ranieri returns to Stamford Bridge, this time as Fulham boss, looking for his second win in as many games after getting off to the perfect start when his side beat Southampton 3-2 at Craven Cottage.

The Cottagers remain at the foot of the Premier League table and make the short trip to Stamford Bridge in a London derby to face a Chelsea side, who slumped to their first defeat against Spurs last weekend.

Chelsea saw their 12-match unbeaten league run end at Wembley when falling to Spurs but they’ll be looking to bounce straight back up against the side at the bottom of the table, who also have the worst defensive record. That is something the Blues will look to exploit given their form in the attacking third. Maurizio Sarri’s side have scored 28 goals, the same as Arsenal – just Man City have scored more. The oddsmakers make them a short price, at 1/5 with Betfair, to record their ninth win of the season, as they look to cement their position in the top four.

It’s a return to domestic action for the Blues after their 4-0 win over PAOK on Thursday night, which saw Sarri make ten changes to keep players fresh with this in mind although Eden Hazard missed out after picking up an ankle knock against Spurs and he remains doubtful. Olivier Giroud was given a start and led the line well scoring twice. At Stamford Bridge, Chelsea have won seven of their ten games in all competitions, drawing their other three but they were held to a stalemate against Everton in their last league match there, which was just their second home league clean sheet.

Fulham proved that a managerial change can see an instant change of fortunes on the pitch with those huge three points over Southampton, in a game where they fell behind early. Slaviša Jokanovic didn’t seem able to work out his best side this season after his summer spending spree and that ultimately saw him pay the price. Following their first win in nine league games, Ranieri may tinker just to try and set up more defensively to give them some stability in a game where they are unlikely to see much of the ball.

Aleksandar Mitrovic fired Fulham to the victory over Southampton with a double that saw him reach seven for the season and those came following a successful international break where he scored twice for Serbia. He’ll be a crucial asset to holding up the ball and scoring from limited opportunities here while Andre Schürrle, who also scored against Southampton, could come back to haunt his former employers from midfield, so despite being 16/1 to win this game, they have some players who hurt this Chelsea side.
