Chelsea vs Manchester City

Two of the top four sides in the Premier League meet this Saturday, as Chelsea take on Manchester City in an intriguing contest at Stamford Bridge. A defeat here for Maurizio Sarri’s team could all but eliminate them from the title race, giving huge incentive for both teams to go for all three points.

Chelsea’s recent stuttering form in the Premier League continued in midweek, with the team relinquishing a first-half lead to lose 2-1 away to struggling Wolves. Ruben Loftus-Cheek had given the Londoners the lead inside 18 minutes, but a strong second-half showing from Wolves saw Raul Jimenez and Diogo Jota hand their team a massive three points.

For Chelsea, it was their second defeat in three games in the Premier League, with the Blues now managing just one win in their last four. Such form has seen them fall 10 points behind Saturday’s opponents in the table and another defeat would make it 13 and leave them in the hunt for the top four.

There has been a lack of sharpness and intensity in recent Chelsea performances, leading to them taking just four points from a possible 12 since drawing 0-0 with Everton. The lack of firepower within this team has also been bemoaned of late, with Alvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud combining for just six Premier League goals this season – Eden Hazard has more himself.

They, just as seemingly everybody is that plays Manchester City, are priced as the underdogs in this game, being available at 16/5 with Betfair to pick up a home win.

Manchester City come into this contest off the back of seven straight victories in the Premier League, doing so after picking up a 2-1 win away to Watford last time out. Goals from Riyad Mahrez and Leroy Sane helped them to victory at Vicarage Road, keeping their two-point lead over chasing Liverpool in the process.

Pep Guardiola’s team are building excellent momentum heading into the Christmas/New Year period, during which they will face the likes of Chelsea, Everton and Liverpool, with the latter meeting coming on January 3. It is quickly looking like the title race will be a two-horse race this season, with both Liverpool and City pulling away from the rest of the top three.

One huge blow for City heading into this game is the absence of Sergio Aguero, who is doubtful coming into the contest. As such, Gabriel Jesus is expected to start in attack, though Raheem Sterling is a potential other option having been rested during the midweek win over Watford. The England forward has eight league goals in just 12 appearances this season and is priced at 9/5 to score anytime with Paddy Power.

With seven wins on the bounce behind them, the Premier League leaders will be expecting a victory here and also won 1-0 at Stamford Bridge last year thanks to a Kevin De Bruyne strike. City are at 10/11 to win this one with SkyBet.
