Chelsea vs PAOK Betting Preview – 29/11/2018

Chelsea vs PAOK

Chelsea are a perfect four from four in their Europa League campaign and have already progressed to the next round. The Blues can confirm top spot if avoiding defeat here at Stamford Bridge against PAOK, who are in third place.

The Greek side could be eliminated from the competition with defeat here if Vidi avoid defeat in the other group game against BATE. That means the visitors will look to keep this tight for as long as possible to keep those hopes alive heading into the final group game where they would be at home to BATE while Vidi would welcome Chelsea.

Maurizio Sarri is expected to make changes to his Chelsea team that lost 3-1 against Tottenham in the Premier League – a defeat that ended their unbeaten start to the season. At Stamford Bridge, the Blues are unbeaten in their last 14 in all competitions since the same opposition (Tottenham) beat them by the same scoreline back in April.  Under Sarri, 22 goals have been scored in ten home games and they have only failed to score in one of them – a 0-0 draw with Everton.

The Blues are at short odds of 1/3 with Sky Bet to record their fifth success in the Europa League and that’s despite the changes they could make. Olivier Giroud and Ruben Loftus-Cheek are vying for starts given their records in front of goal in this competition.

The Frenchman scored the consolation against Tottenham on Saturday and he scored the winner when they travelled to BATE, so 6/5 to score anytime with Bet365 could be a way to go, while Loftus-Cheek netted his first professional hat-trick in Chelsea’s last home game in this competition and he’s available to be backed at 9/4 anytime with Bet365. Both of those will want to impress and force Sarri into giving them a league start.

PAOK are top of the Greek Super League and will pose a tough side to break down, as Chelsea found out in the reverse fixture, which the Blues narrowly won 1-0 with Willian’s early strike. The Greek team have only won one of their four games in this tournament with that coming on their travels when winning 4-1 in Belarus. In that game, they were 3-0 up inside 17 minutes, so could pose a few problems to Chelsea.

That said, the Blues should offer a sterner test for PAOK and the bookmakers don’t give them much of a prayer with some offering double-figure quotes, with Bet Victor going 11/1 for an away win. That’s despite them having won ten of their 11 league games, with them yet to taste defeat in a domestic game since the Greek FA awarded a 3-0 win to AEK Athens against them back in March after the club president stormed onto the pitch following a disallowed goal.

There does look to be a stand out way into this game. PAOK’s four goals scored against BATE are the only goals they’ve netted in the Europa League having drawn blanks in their three other group games. Chelsea have won three of their four matches to nil and have only conceded once in this competition so far.
