Chelsea vs Southampton

Chelsea will take on Southampton at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday evening in the Premier League. The hosts will be looking to add to their victory over Crystal Palace, while Southampton have the task of trying to bounce back from their loss to Manchester City.

Chelsea responded to their surprise defeat to Leicester City in style, securing two narrow one-goal victories in the Premier League. Maurizio Sarri’s team started with a 2-1 win over Watford, before then travelling to Selhurst Park to take on Crystal Palace last time out. A single goal from N’Golo Kante secured a 1-0 victory over their fellow London opponents, with a result which allowed them to move five points clear of Arsenal in fifth. The Blues may not be playing the type of fluent football that they were at the start of the campaign under Sarri, but they are still getting results and creeping towards a top-four finish.

They are 2/7 favourites with BetVictor to win here, as the team looks to pick up a third straight victory in the Premier League and attempt to move further away from Arsenal. Regaining Champions League football will have been the priority for Chelsea at the start of the season and the team currently look on course to do so and in other seasons, may well have been in the hunt for the title had Liverpool and Manchester City not set such a high standard. Winning by one goal in each of their last two games, Chelsea can be backed at 3/1 to win by a one-goal margin in this one.

Southampton come into this trip to London with the task of trying to overturn a run of two successive defeats in the Premier League, with Ralph Hasenhuttl now seeing how big the task ahead of him will be. Starting with a home loss to West Ham, their second successive game saw them host Manchester City and the team will have been extremely disappointed to have not got anything from their back-to-back games at St. Mary’s. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg did put the side on level terms towards the end of the first half, but two Manchester City goals condemned them to another loss.

Saints will be without Hojbjerg in this contest after his red card late on in the game, with the Danish midfielder set to be a huge loss for them in midfield. The away side are priced at 12/1 with Betfair to pick up a huge win on the road here. However, they will be boosted by the result they picked up last time out on the road, having beat Huddersfield Town 3-1 at the John Smith’s Stadium in what was just their second away win of the season so far. Currently only goal difference separates the south coast side from the relegation zone and they need points sooner rather than later.
