England U21 vs Andorra U21 Betting Preview – 11/10/2018

England U21 vs Andorra U21

England U21s will be looking to continue their recent unbeaten run when they take on Andorra U21 on Thursday night at the Recreation Ground.

Aidy Boothroyd has a squad full of young talent, though he will be missing some top talent who have since been called up to the senior squad. Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joe Gomez, Ben Chilwell, Harry Winks, James Maddison, Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford are all eligible to play for the youth team, but are in with Gareth Southgate’s senior squad.

That has seen Boothroyd draft in three new faces to the squad for this weekend, with Harvey Barnes, Phil Foden and Reiss Nelson all receiving their first call-ups to the U21 squad and will hope to slot in seamlessly to a team that have been in fantastic form.

England are unbeaten in each of their last 14 games since losing on penalties to Germany in the U21 European Championship back in 2017. With that defeat coming on penalties, they are unbeaten in 90 minutes in 19 matches, with that loss also coming against the Germans. There is no real value in an England win here, as they are overwhelming favourites at 1/100 with Bet365.

With 11 wins from 13, they are a team that are used to winning games at this level and have a number of outstanding young players, including Tammy Abraham, who has eight goals in 21 caps for the U21s.

Elsewhere, Dominic Solanke and Dominic Calvert-Lewin are the other centre-forward options, while Nelson, Ryan Sessegnon and Ademola Lookman are some of the wide options. We like the look of Abraham to score first at 12/5 with William Hill.

England U21s haven’t lost on home soil since March 2010, with it being over eight years since their last defeat which came in a 2-1 defeat against Greece. In England’s side that day included the likes of Kyle Walker, Ryan Bertrand, Chris Smalling, Jack Wilshere and Andy Carroll. Stuart Pearce was also the manager, with it being a significant period in which they last lost on home turf.

After reaching the semi-finals of the 2017 European Championships, England’s youth side are now working towards the 2019 edition of the tournament, having already qualified as group winners of Group 4 with six victories and two draws from eight games. As such, Boothroyd may use this game to experiment, though they should still win comfortably regardless. England are available at 9/2 to win 3-0 with Betfred.

Andorra U21s aren’t in great form, which only contributes to England’s position as favourites for this match. They have lost six of their last seven matches and haven’t won since a 1-0 victory over Lithuania in June 2015.

Their stretch without a win during that time extends over 15 matches in all competitions, which won’t leave confidence feeling great coming into this one. They have failed to score in 14 of those games, with their only goal coming against British opposition in Scotland. Those looking to back a huge upset can get odds of 66/1 for Andorra to win with Ladbrokes.

England look to be far too strong for their opponents in a fixture that really is a mismatch. Being unbeaten at home in eight years and coming up against a side that haven’t won in three years, we are expecting Aidy Boothroyd’s team to enjoy a comfortable night with the pressure off them to perform.
