Europa League Round-Up: 20/09/2018

PAOK Salonika vs Chelsea

Greek side PAOK are the first opponents of Chelsea in the group stages of the Europa League on Thursday night. The hosts will be in a confident mood having made a strong start to their domestic campaign, winning each of their opening three games in the Greek Super League. That confidence should serve them well and are a hefty 15/4 to win here with Bet365. Given their quality and squad depth, Chelsea are the favourites to win here at 4/5 with Ladbrokes, despite being expected to make multiple changes in this match. Maurizio Sarri’s team have five wins from five in the Premier League so far and that will ultimately take priority. However, their fringe players should be able to get the job done here.

Recommended bet: Chelsea win at 4/5 with Ladbrokes – BET HERE

Arsenal vs Vorskla

Beaten semi-finalists in last season’s competition, Arsenal kick off their Europa League campaign against Ukrainian side Vorskla. The Gunners come into this game off the back of three straight wins in the Premier League, with the team beginning to show some form under Unai Emery. Arsenal are overwhelming favourites, being best priced at 1/8 with Bet365 to start the group stages with three points in this one. Vorskla are heavy underdogs and the stats suggest rightly so, despite winning three of their last four league games. The club are inexperienced at this level and have never won a game in the Europa League group stages, last exiting the competition with just two points from their six group matches at this stage in the 2011/12 campaign. They can be backed as high as 33/1 with Coral to cause a major upset here.

Recommended bet: Arsenal to win 3-0 at 5/1 with Bet365 – BET HERE

Villarreal vs Rangers

One of the more intriguing Europa League ties comes from Spain, as Rangers face a tough test away to La Liga outfit Villarreal. The hosts are regulars in European competition and will be in a positive mood after picking up their first win of the campaign at the weekend. Their pedigree at European level has certainly been taken into account, with BetVictor pricing them at 1/3 to come out on top. However, they are facing a Rangers side who have been stubborn to this point of the competition. Steven Gerrard’s team have conceded just one goal in their four away qualifiers, although this is a significantly greater test than what they have faced thus far. Rangers are major underdogs and Betfair has them at 10/1 to cause an upset and get the win in Spain.

Recommended bet: Villarreal win and under 2.5 match goals at 9/4 with Bet365 – BET HERE

Celtic vs Rosenborg

Celtic will look to continue their winning run over Rosenborg when the two teams meet on Thursday evening. On the whole, it’s been an underwhelming start to the campaign for Brendan Rodgers’ side, who trail leaders Hearts by five points at the top of the Scottish Premiership table. Ladbrokes have Celtic favoured to win this contest at 1/2. That will be in part down to their recent record against Rosenborg, having defeated the Norwegian side in each of the last two seasons in the Champions League qualifying rounds. Rosenborg were handed a 3-1 defeat on their previous trip to Glasgow just less than two months ago. They are the outsiders in this one, being priced at 13/2 to win with Bet365.

Recommended bet: Leigh Griffiths to score first at 7/2 with BetVictor – BET HERE
