Everton vs Crystal Palace Betting Preview – 21/10/2018

Everton vs Crystal Palace

Everton welcome Crystal Palace in Sunday’s Premier League clash as they look to extend their improved run of form.

The Toffees head into this one on the back of two consecutive league wins, a much-needed upturn in results following a disappointing start to the campaign. Crystal Palace, meanwhile, head to Goodison Park on the back of two straight defeats, a run that has left them once again looking over their shoulders at the relegation zone. Without Wilfried Zaha, Palace can’t buy a goal and Roy Hodgson has to find an answer before the trip to Everton this weekend.

Everton have suffered a poor start to the season in comparison to expectations despite the appointment of former Hull boss Marco Silva. The Toffees may have invested heavily in the last few years, but they haven’t achieved any results from those investments just yet.

That’s something they will be looking to put right with some sort of European qualification this season. Though, this campaign hasn’t been much better than the last so far with Everton picking up 12 points from their first 10 games. It’s a points return that has left them 11th in the Premier League table, three points off the top seven.

Last time out, Everton went some way to closing the gap on those above by making it two wins on the bounce. Marco Silva picked up a big three points away to Leicester, courtesy of goals from Richarlison and Gylfi Sigurdsson. The second was one not to be missed. Prior to that, Everton also beat Fulham comfortably at home, though they followed that with a cup defeat to Southampton via penalties.

Everton are favourites to beat Palace this weekend, Bet 365 and Sky Bet have them at 17/20 to win, while Ladbrokes price them at 20/23. Everton have conceded 12 goals in 12 games this season, so if you are backing them to win, it may be worth making it a both teams to score and a win, which is 3/1 with Ladbrokes, Betfair and many others.

Richarlison has been Everton’s star man so far this season, scoring four goals in his first season at Goodison Park. The Brazilian is 9/2 with Bet365 to add to that by scoring the opener this weekend. Gylfi Sigurdsson has also netted four and he’s at a hot 5/2 with Bet365 to score at any time in this one. Thar’s a good option given his set-piece ability.

Crystal Palace will have come into this season with the aim of starting well following the disastrous start to last season. Above all, however, they will be looking to avoid another relegation battle after the unwanted drama last year, at least until Roy Hodgson arrived. Wilfried Zaha’s injury problems certainly haven’t helped, but Palace still look like they might be caught up in a relegation scrap at this point.

Having picked up just seven points in eight games, Hodgson’s men sit in 14th place, just four points off the drop zone. A couple of good results will see them move quickly away from the bottom three, but they now enter a torrid run of fixtures. Following the Everton trip, Palace face four of last season’s top six consecutively in the league, a run that could leave them in a spot of bother.

Last time out, the Eagles lost 1-0 at home to Wolves following Matt Doherty’s winner. That result will have been seen as a disappointing one at home, especially following a 2-1 defeat on the road against Bournemouth the previous week. That’s now consecutive defeats for Palace and three without a win following a home draw with strugglers Newcastle last month.

They head to Everton in need of a positive result, especially with the games coming up and they are priced at a long 7/1 to win with most bookmakers, including Coral and Betfred. Palace would certainly take a draw this weekend and they are 7/2 to achieve that with Sky Bet.

Wilfried Zaha could miss out again this weekend and that’s a blow for Palace given that he has contributed to three of their five goals this season. Palace are the third lowest scorers in the league and that makes the under 0.5 Palace goals option with Betfair at 6/4 a good option.
