France vs Germany Betting Preview – 16/10/2018

France vs Germany

France face Germany at the Stade De France on Tuesday evening, as the last two winners of the World Cup meet in an important Nations League clash.

Current World Cup holders France have been riding the crest of a wave ever since the summer, but were in friendly action on Friday night, though the game didn’t quite go as to plan. Didier Deschamps’ side were 2-0 down after 60 minutes, with the game turning on its head with the introduction of Kylian Mbappe, who forced an own goal before scoring the equaliser in the 90th minute.

Mbappe is the golden boy of his incredibly-talented group of players, which also includes the likes of Raphael Varane, Paul Pogba and Antoine Griezmann. The 19-year-old is set to return to the starting XI on Tuesday evening and is currently priced at 8/5 to score anytime with Unibet, which certainly looks tempting for a player who has scored eight goals in just five Ligue 1 appearances for PSG.

France are unbeaten in each of their last 14 matches since losing to Colombia back in March of this year, which is also their only defeat in their previous 22 games in all internationals. Such form sees them placed as favourites in this home tie, who are best-priced to win at 3/4 with Unibet in this one.

The previous meeting in the Nations League ended in a 0-0 draw and France have drawn two of their three matches since World Cup glory, with the draw available to be backed at 31/10 with Bet365. However, France will be expecting much more than that, with the chance to go four points clear at the top of Group 1 in League A, leaving them as the clear favourites to progress to next summer’s Finals.

Germany look a long way off the team that won the World Cup in convincing fashion in 2014, with France being the benchmark for the level that they must chase and try to return to. Joachim Low was under real pressure following Germany’s woeful showing at the World Cup in the summer and that will be even greater after losing 3-0 to Netherlands.

Goals from Virgil van Dijk, Memphis Depay and Gini Wijnaldum sealed the win for the recently underperforming Dutch, who will themselves have been surprised by the nature of the scoreline. Now, Germany have lost three of their last six games, with their price to win here reflecting that fact. Bet365 are offering 4/1 for a Germany win.

Die Mannschaft have also struggled away from home in recent times, having lost four and drawn one of their last six games outside of Germany, with just the one victory in that time, coming against Sweden at the World Cup. After shipping three goals last time out, Coral have France to score 2+ goals at 7/10 in this contest.
