Fulham vs Oldham

Craven Cottage is the host for an FA Cup third-round clash between Premier League hosts Fulham and League Two visitors Oldham on Sunday afternoon as two sides who will be desperate to treat their fans to a cup run square off for a place in the fourth-round. The hosts might be keen on a break from Premier League life after a tough campaign up to now, whilst Oldham have won their last two games and they’ll be hoping to cause a shock against a big-name opponent to build important momentum. The teams last met in 1999 in League One and Fulham won the corresponding match 1-0, whilst the 1998 reverse fixture ended in a 1-1 draw.

Claudio Ranieri’s Fulham achieved all-important promotion from the Championship to the Premier League back in May, but their current position of 19th in the top-flight table isn’t ideal for Sunday’s hosts and a welcomed break for an FA Cup match against League Two opposition will be appetising for Ranieri’s men. Fulham head into the match as the huge 3/10 favourites with William Hill and having won just once in eight matches, they’ll be more than happy to end a winning drought, albeit in a competition which isn’t as high on the priority list as their league competition.

Despite their recent woes in the top-flight, Fulham will be hoping they still have more than enough to breeze past this Oldham side and they’ll be hoping to outscore their opposition here from the off. Over 2.5 goals is an attractive 4/9 with William Hill, whilst over 3.5 goals is 11/8 with Unibet. Leading the line will be talisman Aleksandar Mitrovic and with the Serbian desperate to cause havoc on home soil here, his price of 10/3 with Bet365 to score the first goal looks an intriguing one. Andre Schurrle is also a threat and despite the German having not had the best time so far this season, his price of 16/5 with Ladbrokes to net first is a good one. Other threatening attackers include the likes of Aboubakar Kamara, who is 16/5 with Betfair to score first, as well as Ryan Sessegnon, who’s an attractive 6/1 with Paddy Power.

Oldham under their current manager Pete Wild have impressed as of late and their current position of tenth in the fourth-tier table looks a healthy one and one in which this weekend’s visiting side can progress from if they can continue their good form. Oldham are the big underdogs against top opposition here and rightly so, but their price of 10/1 with Bet365 might not be a bad bet considering the contrast in both their form and the form of the hosts. If the away side can snatch the first goal of the afternoon, the pressure will certainly begin to mount and that bet is priced at 5/2 with Sky Bet. Wild’s side to qualify is also a big 5/1 with William Hill, whilst both teams to score is evens with Betfair.

Spearheading any potential success for Oldham here will be Chris O’Grady and having scored six goals in 23 appearances this term, the 32-year-old’s price of 12/1 to score first with Sky Bet looks a good one. Ishmael Miller has three goals and he is also a threat and the 31-year-old is priced at 12/1 with Bet365 to score first here, whilst Max Norman is 14/1 with Ladbrokes and on-loan Bournemouth man Sam Surridge is 10/1 with Sky Bet to net first.
