Hearts v Celtic – 2019 Scottish Cup Final

The football season comes to an end in Scotland this weekend, with Hearts taking on Celtic in the Scottish Cup final at Hampden Park.

It could potentially be a historic day for Neil Lennon’s side, who could complete the treble Treble if they lift the trophy. The Hoops have won the Scottish Premiership, League Cup and FA Cup in each of the last two seasons and having already won the first two of those this season, they are on the verge of an incredible achievement.

Celtic were the pre-tournament favourites to lift the trophy and if they do manage to win it, it would also be their 39th title which would move them six clear of Rangers.

For Hearts this match represents their first final since winning the competition back in the 2011/12 season when they memorably beat local rivals Hibernian 5-1 at Hampden Park. The eight-time winners have lifted the title in each of their last three appearances in the final, but this is arguably the toughest yet against a Celtic team which has been winning every piece of silverware available.

This will be the second time these two teams have faced each other within a week, having played last weekend on the final day of the Scottish Premiership season. Celtic came out on top that day with a 2-1 win thanks to a brace from Michael Johnston.

Betting Predictions for the 2019 Scottish Cup Final

Celtic come into this game in great form as you would expect, winning 10 of their last 14 matches in all competitions and having lost just once which was against Rangers a fortnight ago at Ibrox. The Hoops have been the dominant force in Scottish football in the last few years, which reflects within their odds of 1/3 to win this cup final.

Neil Lennon should welcome back key players Kieran Tierney, James Forrest and Odsonne Edouard for this fixture after resting each of them for the league fixture last weekend. Both Edouard and Forrest have enjoyed playing against Hearts this season, with each of them having scored three times against them already.

Whilst two of Edouard’s goals came in one match, Forrest has tormented the Edinburgh based side in each of his last three appearances against them with a goal in each match. The winger has netted 14 goals overall this season and considering his recent record against Hearts, he looks a good price to score anytime with odds of 15/8 with BetVictor.

James Forrest has been a thorn in Hearts’ side this season, netting in each of his last three appearances against them.

As for their opponents, it would be fair to say that Craig Levein’s side do not come into this final in great form. They have managed to win just one of their last eight matches, losing six although their one win was in this competition – a 3-0 success against Championship side Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

However whilst Hearts’s recent results may be pretty awful, they do tend to manage to find the back of the net in games. Indeed they have scored in six of their last seven matches in all competitions so odds of 6/5 for both teams to score with William Hill looks an attractive price, especially when you also consider that they have scored in their last two matches against Celtic (both 2-1 defeats).

In terms of team news, Olly Lee will be missing for Hearts after twisting his knee against Celtic last weekend. But there is better news regarding Lee’s fellow midfielder Peter Haring who has declared himself fit to play after recovering from a groin complaint he picked up in the semi-final of this competition.

It is hard to look past Celtic to win this one given both teams recent form, but there is little value in simply backing the Bhoys to win the match. As mentioned the last two games between these two have finished with a Celtic win and both teams scoring, so backing that here at 23/10 with BetVictor could represent better value.
