Charlton vs Sunderland

Football League action might be on hold for a lot of sides this weekend with the FA Cup set to continue, but six teams in League One are still set to go head-to-head – with three brilliant games in round 27 of third-tier action. Saturday afternoon football is back at the Valley in the capital and it’ll be two former Premier League regulars squaring off as Charlton take on Sunderland. The hosts have begun to look like one of the sides who can earn a place in the playoffs coming May or perhaps even get into the two automatic promotion spots, but they undeniably face their toughest task in a long while when they take on third place Sunderland, the side two spots above them in the division. Lee Bowyer’s side beat Walsall 2-1 last time out and in their second-successive game at the Valley, they could climb into fourth. Sunderland slipped up against league leaders Portsmouth just a few days before Christmas, but their boxing day win over Bradford in front of a packed-out crowd in the North-East and a recent 1-0 win away to Blackpool will be what they hope to emulate here to get themselves back into the top two. The sides have met once already this term and it was Sunderland who ran out 2-1 winners on the opening day of the season. The bookmakers struggle to separate these teams, with the hosts at 13/8 with William Hill and the visitors are 17/10 with William Hill, whilst the draw is an attractive 23/10 with Bet Victor.

Rochdale vs Burton

Rochdale take on Burton Albion at Spotland on Saturday afternoon as two sides within four spots of each other in the League One table go head-to-head in pursuit of what would be a hugely important three points. The hosts are in 17th after back-to-back losses, but a win over Burton – the side in 13th – would see them leapfrog their opponents. Burton are unbeaten in three and undoubtedly head into this one as the in-form side, but no away win in the league since early-November will be something they’ll have to bounce back from if they hope to overcome their opponents. The sides last met on the opening day of the 2018/19 season back in August and the reverse fixture at the Pirelli Stadium ended in a 2-1 win for Rochdale. The hosts are the slight favourites at 13/10 with William Hill, whilst the draw is 12/5 with the same bookmaker and the Burton win here is 2/1 with Unibet.

Scunthorpe vs Coventry

Glanford Park is the host of Scunthorpe against Coventry this weekend as a big fixture in round 27 of the 2018/19 third-tier season is set to take place against two sides who need the three points for contrasting reasons. The hosts need the win to get themselves out of the bottom-four in the division and after two consecutive wins against Wycombe and away to Peterborough they’ll be confident of doing so. Coventry will be looking for the three points to ensure they stay with the playoff chasers in the division and despite winning three-straight matches, they are still seven points outside of sixth position. The reverse tie at the Ricoh Arena saw Scunthorpe run out 2-1 winners earlier this season and the same result for the hosts is 9/5 with Bet365, whilst the draw is 12/5 with William Hill and the away side are an attractive 11/8 with Bet365.
