League One Round-Up: 23/10/2018

Blackpool vs Scunthorpe United

Midweek League One action starts with a mid-table clash from Bloomfield Road on Tuesday evening as Blackpool take on Scunthorpe United in an important match for both sides in round 15 of the third-tier. The hosts, priced at 9/10 with Unibet, have been in fine form and currently find themselves on a six-game unbeaten run in the league, winning their most recent 2-0 against AFC Wimbledon. Blackpool have also drawn a lot of matches, the most in the league with seven and another one here is an attractive 27/10 with William Hill. Scunthorpe, priced at 7/2 with Bet365, have slipped down to 15th and three straight defeats has left United in a rut. A win for both sides here is important, but we are backing the hosts to win, continuing their good form.

Recommended bet: Blackpool to win 3-1 at 14/1 with William Hill – BET HERE

Bradford City vs Coventry City

An intriguing tie in League One comes from Valley Parade this week as Bradford take on Coventry, with two sides with contrasting form meeting for the first time since early 2017. The home team are in desperate need of three points after three consecutive defeats and just one win in 11 third tier games. Those shocking statistics have left City in the dreaded drop zone and therefore they are priced at 19/10 with Unibet to win this one. The draw is 23/10 with Paddy Power, whilst a fourth consecutive win for Coventry is an attractive 16/11 with Betfair. We do expect a Coventry win, but with a slight fightback from Bradford.

Recommended bet: Coventry to win and both teams to score YES at 7/2 with Sky Bet – BET HERE

Bristol Rovers vs AFC Wimbledon

The Memorial Stadium hosts a midweek clash between two teams fighting potential relegation this term as Bristol Rovers take on AFC Wimbledon. The away side have now lost all of their last four matches, whilst Rovers haven’t got much better of a record, but did record an uninspiring 0-0 draw with fellow relegation contenders Oxford United at the weekend. A Bristol win for only the third time this season is unlikely and therefore priced at 13/10 with Bet 365. Wimbledon have won three times this season, but nine defeats has left them in the drop zone. A win here would propel them out of the bottom four and potentially as high as 18th if results go their way and that is priced at 12/5 with Unibet. Despite Rovers seemingly in the slight better form, we struggle to separate these sides and therefore we are backing a low-scoring draw in this one.

Recommended bet: Draw at 23/10 with Betway – BET HERE

Charlton Athletic vs Oxford United

Charlton take on Oxford in what looks like a simple task for the home side at the Valley in midweek. The hosts sit in ninth, whereas United are in the relegation zone, but three games undefeated has signified a slight turnaround in form for the side who play their football at the Kassam Stadium. They face a tough task to make it four games without a loss and a win for the away side is priced at 10/3 with Bet 365, whilst the draw is 27/10 with William Hill. Athletic had lost two on the bounce prior to the weekend, where they beat promotion contenders Barnsley 2-0 in an all-important victory and they go into the match as favourites, priced at 10/11 with Bet Victor. The home win would be easy to back, but we are picking the in-form forward in the Charlton ranks to extend his tally after a brace at the weekend.

Recommended bet: Karlan Ahearne-Grant to score first at 9/2 with Bet 365 – BET HERE

Doncaster Rovers vs Sunderland

The Keepmoat Stadium will host the first competitive match between Doncaster and Sunderland for the first time in recent history on Tuesday night. The sides had met back in 2015 in a club friendly which ended 2-0 to Rovers, but prior to that neither team had played one another. Sunderland head into the match of the back of an impressive 2-0 win over Shrewsbury Town on the road, whilst Donny drew 3-3 in a cracker with Gillingham on home turf at the weekend. The game promises to be a tense affair between two of the top six, with both sides knowing a win here would cement them a place in the top three. Doncaster are priced at 7/5 with William Hill, whilst Jack Ross’ Black Cats are an attractive 7/4 with Betway. The draw between two sides in the top six is an intriguing 23/10 with Unibet, but we are backing Sunderland’s young talisman to grab another goal to make it ten for the season in this one.

Recommended bet: Josh Maja to score first at 9/2 with Bet 365 – BET HERE

Luton Town vs Accrington Stanley

Two of this season’s surprise packages meet at Kenilworth Road on Tuesday evening as John Coleman’s Accrington Stanley play away to Nathan Jones’ Luton in a cracking match between two teams in pursuit of a promotion spot. Stanley sit in fourth after back-to-back wins against Bradford and more recently Peterborough United on the road, whilst Town beat Walsall 2-0 last weekend and come into this game knowing a win could get them into the top six. A home win is 8/11 with Betway, whilst the away side to grab another emphatic win is a tidy 4/1 with Bet 365. The draw is 11/4 with Paddy Power, but we are backing over 2.5 goals in this one between two of the impressive attacking sides from the season so far.

Recommended bet: Over 2.5 goals at 4/5 with Bet Victor – BET HERE

Peterborough United vs Fleetwood Town

Two of the promotion hopefuls from League One meet at the ABAX Stadium on Tuesday night as Steve Evans’ Peterborough take on Joey Barton’s Fleetwood in what is expected to be an exciting match in Cambridgeshire. United were flying in the third tier, but just one win from five matches in the division has left fans of the hosts worried. Fleetwood aren’t too dissimilar and Barton’s side have been inconsistent all season, evident with their 2-1 win against Shrewsbury which was then backed up with a 1-0 loss against Portsmouth last weekend. A win to follow the pattern set by Fleetwood this season is priced at 27/10 with Unibet, whilst a home win for United is evens with Paddy Power. We actually struggle to separate these two sides and therefore we are backing a score-draw.

Recommended bet: Draw at 27/10 with William Hill – BET HERE

Plymouth Argyle vs Gillingham

The worst performing side in League one return to Home Park in need of three points to avoid being cut adrift as Plymouth take on Gillingham. Neither side are exactly in form, with the hosts having lost two on the bounce and Gillingham without a win in two also. But the away side are clearly the more prolific of the two with two more wins and two fewer defeats. A fourth win of the campaign for Gills is 2/1 with Bet 365, whilst a home win is 7/5 with the same bookmaker and a draw is 5/2 with William Hill. However, after their most recent game ended in a seven-goal thriller in the reverse fixture and with two sides unlikely to hold back as they fight for their lives in the division, we are backing goals galore in this one.

Recommended bet: Over 2.5 goals at 5/6 with Paddy Power – BET HERE

Portsmouth vs Burton Albion

League One leaders Portsmouth had hit a bump in the road when they were surprisingly beaten 2-0 at home by Gillingham a few weeks ago, but two wins since suggest Kenny Jackett’s side are the side to beat this term. Pompey welcome Burton Albion to Fratton Park in midweek and the game is a chance for the hosts to perhaps extend their six-point gap at the top. Nigel Clough’s Burton are also in good form and have won their last two matches, but a win here is needed if they hope to avoid being cut adrift by the playoff contenders. The sides last met in 2015, with the corresponding tie ending in a 1-1 draw, but we fail to look past a home win here. The draw is 13/5, whilst a surprise away win is 7/2 with Betway.

Recommended bet: Portsmouth to win 3-1 at 16/1 with Bet Victor – BET HERE

Shrewsbury Town vs Barnsley

Shrewsbury Town return to Greenhous Meadow for the second time in four days as they welcome a Barnsley side in pursuit of a result to reply to their 2-0 loss to Charlton last weekend. Town have lost their last two matches, with the most recent coming in a 2-0 defeat to Sunderland on home soil last Saturday. The sides last met back in 2016 and it was Barnsley who ran out 3-0 victors in the corresponding tie and the same result here is priced at 5/4 with Bet 365. A surprise home win is 13/5 with Bet 365, whilst the draw is 23/10 with William Hill. Although, we are backing goals in this one, which has been a feature of the two teams’ seasons so far.

Recommended bet: Over 2.5 goals at 11/10 with Paddy Power – BET HERE

Southend United vs Walsall

Two sides in pursuit of a playoff spot meet at Roots Hall on Tuesday evening as Southend United take on Walsall. Both sides come into the match off the back of a loss, with United losing 2-1 to Coventry and Walsall losing 2-0 to Luton. Both sides will be desperate to put things right this week, with a win for either side putting them one step closer to that all-important top six place. A win for the hosts is 9/10 with Bet 365, whilst an away win is 7/2 with Unibet. We struggle to separate these two sides and therefore we are backing a draw, which also includes plenty of goals.

Recommended bet: Draw at 11/4 with Bet 365 – BET HERE

Wycombe Wanderers vs Rochdale

Wycombe return to Adams Park off the back of an epic 3-2 victory as they face Rochdale, a side also coming into this game off the back of a win. This week’s away side beat Bradford 2-0 and the same scoreline was recorded last time the two teams met in the corresponding fixture back in 2014. Wanderers have looked most dangerous when on home turf and another win for the home side here is 17/10 with Betway. A draw is 5/2 with Bet Victor, but we are actually backing the Dale to win this one, extending their unbeaten run to five matches against Wycombe.

Recommended bet: Rochdale to win and both teams to score YES at 10/3 with Sky Bet – BET HERE
