League One Round-Up: 29/09/2018

Coventry City vs Sunderland

Mark Robins’ Coventry City face off against Jack Ross’s Sunderland in front of the television cameras in the opening match of the League One weekend on Saturday lunchtime. The sides last met in the Championship back in 2007, where the Black Cats won 2-0 in the reverse fixture and the same result is favoured this time around as Ross’s men go into the match priced at 11/8 with Bet 365, whilst City are priced at 2/1 with Betway and the draw is at 23/10 with Unibet. We are backing the third-placed Sunderland side to run out victors here, with talisman Josh Maja to extend his impressive goal tally to eight in ten matches against a struggling Coventry.

Recommended bet: Josh Maja to score first @ 4/1 with Sky Bet – BET HERE

AFC Wimbledon vs Oxford United

Kingsmeadow hosts an intriguing tie between Neal Ardley’s AFC Wimbledon and Karl Robinson’s Oxford United in an all-important tie for both sides at this stage of the campaign. United are without a win in four and find themselves one place above the foot of the table, whilst Wimbledon sit in 19th, just three points above their rivals. The hosts last won away to Gillingham at the start of the month and are priced at 11/10 with Betfair here, whilst Oxford have had a dire season and are priced at a big 23/10 with Unibet. The draw is 5/2 with Bet 365 and on the evidence of both sides’ recent poor attacking displays, we are backing the draw in this one, which could leave both sides in the relegation zone.

Recommended bet: Under 2.5 goals @ 12/11 with Bet Victor – BET HERE

Bradford City vs Bristol Rovers

A resurgent Bristol Rovers travel to Valley Parade to take on a Bradford City side in the relegation zone on Saturday afternoon, with both sides desperate to win the game to propel themselves up the third tier. Rovers won their last, beating Coventry City 3-1 on home soil and the win was their second in four days, having beaten West Ham Under-23’s 2-0 in the Checkatrade Trophy. Rovers have been beaten just once in their last five League One matches, but face a tough task against a Bradford side in desperate need of a win after five straight defeats in League One, leaving them 22nd. City are priced at 15/8 with Bet 365 and the draw is 23/10 with William Hill, but we like a resurgent Rovers to win this game at 8/5 with Unibet.

Recommended bet: Bristol Rovers to win @ 8/5 Unibet – BET HERE

Burton Albion vs Scunthorpe United

The Pirelli Stadium is set to host an exciting tie between Nigel Clough’s Burton Albion, who are priced at 6/7 with Bet 365 and have not lost in three matches and a resurgent Scunthorpe United, managed by Stuart McCall, who haven’t loss in five. United, priced at 16/5 with Unibet, made a terrible start in the third tier, but now find themselves in 11th after back-to-back wins against AFC Wimbledon and Shrewsbury Town, but face a tough task against Albion, who won the corresponding fixture 2-1 back in 2015. We are expecting goals in this match, with both sides looking to fly up the league table with a win.

Recommended bet: Over 2.5 goals @ 10/11 with Unibet – BET HERE

Fleetwood Town vs Barnsley

Joey Barton’s Fleetwood Town return to Highbury Stadium in search of a win to recapture their early-season form against a tough Barnsley side in search of instant promotion back to the Championship. Barnsley are also without in two matches, having lost their last away to Coventry, but after a lengthy break which will have helped Daniel Stendel’s side regroup after a tough loss, they’ll be fully confident of achieving a victory and are priced at a 10/11. Barton’s side are 14/5 with Betfair to win the match, whilst the draw is 5/2 with Paddy Power. A win for either side could potentially reignite their season, whilst a loss could be devastating for their sides confidence. We like Barnsley in this one, with talisman Kieffer Moore to add to his impressive tally.

Recommended bet: Kieffer Moore to score @ 5/4 with Sky Bet – BET HERE

Luton Town vs Charlton Athletic

Kenilworth Road sees Luton Town welcome Lee Bowyer’s impressive Charlton side in an all-important match for both sides. The hosts, priced at 1/1 with Bet365, look a tidy side in this league and have lost just once in all competitions in their last seven matches. Their best win of the season came in a 3-2 win over Shrewsbury Town on home soil and fans of the hosts will be hoping for a similar result against a top Charlton side, priced at 11/4 with Paddy Power. Athletic have made a sheer resurgence as of late after a tough start to their season, where they won one in four matches. A recent 2-1 win hard-earned win over Plymouth showed exactly what Athletic are capable of this term and we are backing the away side to get another win, potentially taking them into the top three if results elsewhere go their way.

Recommended bet: Charlton Athletic to win @ 11/4 with Paddy Power – BET HERE

Peterborough United vs Blackpool

Third tier able toppers Peterborough return to the ABAX Stadium to face eighth-placed Blackpool on Saturday afternoon, as Steve Evans’ side look to put some distance between themselves and the chasing promotion pack. United could be under some pressure to win the game come kick off, with title rivals Sunderland kicking off in the early tie against Coventry, but a win would certainly send out another positive statement to the rest of the league. Peterborough, who are priced at 11/8 with Bet 365, won’t find it easy to win their match against a Blackpool side unbeaten in their last four matches in all competitions and come into the game off the back of a 2-0 win over Championship side QPR in midweek. Blackpool are priced at 15/8 with Paddy Power, whilst the draw is 11/4 with Unibet, but we like Peterborough to win this one.

Recommended bet: Peterborough United to win @ 11/8 with Bet 365 – BET HERE

Plymouth Argyle vs Doncaster Rovers

Bottom of the table Plymouth return to Home Park against a Doncaster side undefeated in their last six matches. The away side sit fourth in the table and are priced at 1/1 with William Hill to win this one, whilst Argyle are priced at 3/1 with Bet 365 and the draw is at 5/2 with Betfair. Derek Adams’ side have scored just once in their last four games, whilst Rovers have been in fine attacking form. Doncaster’s number nine John Marquis has been the danger man in the opposition box this term with six goals from nine and we are backing the 26-year-old to do the business once again this weekend.

Recommended bet: John Marquis to score first @ 7/2 with Sky Bet – BET HERE

Rochdale vs Portsmouth

Kenny Jackett’s Portsmouth travel to Rochdale this weekend as both sides look to get back to their winning form prior to last week. The hosts, priced at 17/10 with William Hill, were hammered 4-1 away to Sunderland last weekend and their run of games doesn’t get any easier with a second-placed Portsmouth side travelling to the Spotland Stadium, who are priced at 3/2 with Betfair. The former Premier League regulars were on the end of a scare last weekend after strugglers Wycombe Wanderers almost snatched all three points and the away side will be looking for maximum points this week to keep their title bid intact. We like Portsmouth to win this one, a side who are undefeated in their last ten matches.

Recommended bet: Portsmouth double chance @ 1/2 with Betway – BET HERE

Shrewsbury Town vs Gillingham

Greenhous Meadow hosts Shrewsbury Town vs Gillingham in an all-important tie in the third tier of English football this weekend. The travelling side haven’t won in seven matches and find themselves in the bottom four, whilst Shrewsbury sit one place above the drop zone, only on goal difference. A Town win is priced at 8/11 with Unibet, whilst the draw is 13/5 with Paddy Power and an unexpected Gillingham win is 9/2. We like the hosts to win this one after showing signs of a good team prior to their recent 1-0 loss to Scunthorpe, within their last game at home featuring an impressive 2-0 win against Southend United.

Recommended bet: Shrewsbury Town to win @ 8/11 with Unibet – BET HERE

Walsall vs Accrington Stanley

Walsall play Accrington Stanley at the Bescot Stadium on Saturday afternoon as fifth plays ninth in what is expected to be an excellent match in League One. Both teams have lost just once this season and its Stanley who last lost eight games ago in the third tier, but they face a tough task against Walsall who have been excellent this season, winning their last match 2-1 on the road against Oxford. Stanley are priced at 17/10 with Unibet, whilst the draw is 23/10 with Bet 365 and a home win is 17/10 with Betway. We are backing goals galore and both teams to score in this fixture between two sides who haven’t been shy of finding the net this term.

Recommended bet: Both teams to score @ 8/11 with William Hill – BET HERE

Wycombe Wanderers vs Southend United

Adams Park hosts an important match between 18th-placed Wycombe Wanderers and 16th-placed Southend United in League One this weekend. The hosts, who were narrowly edged out 4-3 against Norwich City in the Carabao Cup in midweek are priced at 19/10 with Bet Victor and the draw is 12/5 with Bet365. The away side recorded their first win in the league in four matches with a tidy 1-0 win last weekend and we are backing a similar style result in a tight game, with Southend our winners in this one, priced at 7/5 with Paddy Power.

Recommended bet: Southend United to win @ 7/5 with Paddy Power – BET HERE
