The eighth instalment of League One fixtures kick off this weekend, as twelve ties in the third tier all kick off on Saturday afternoon. The fixtures promise to be exciting, with some important ties set to feature across the weekend. The table will begin to take shape at the end of the matches, with promotion candidates set to become evident, as well as relegation places set to be contested for. Below we have put together a round-up of all the League One matches, as well as a recommended bet for each match.

AFC Wimbledon vs Scunthorpe United

AFC Wimbledon take on Scunthorpe United at Kingsmeadow on Saturday afternoon in an important mid-table clash. A loss for either side could see them drop into the dreaded relegation zone if results were to go against them and both Neal Ardley and Stuart McCall will be looking to build on their recent fortunes ahead of Saturday. Wimbledon have gone two games unbeaten in both League One and the Checkatrade Trophy, having beaten league rivals Charlton in the domestic cup competition earlier this month and more recently beating Gillingham 1-0 on the road. United are four games unbeaten and have made a well-needed U-turn in their early-season form. Their last game saw McCall’s side draw 3-3 at home to Rochdale and their last three in League One have all ended in draws, but we think AFC Wimbledon will win this tie after looking like a decent outfit under Ardley so far this month.

Recommended Bet: AFC Wimbledon to win at 5/6 with SkyBet – BET HERE

Bradford City vs Charlton Athletic

Valley Parade is the host of Bradford City and Charlton Athletic, two sides who will be hoping to earn promotion to the Championship this season. The away side are the in-form side of the two, having went unbeaten in their last three. Whilst City are now winless in their last three, despite being one of the teams tipped for a decent season in the third tier this season. Talisman Lyle Taylor will be the man to watch in this match, having signed for Charlton this summer and playing brilliantly ever since his arrival. City are desperate for a win to avoid slipping into the relegation places, but we are predicting Lee Bowyer’s side to win this game to make it three wins on the bounce.

Recommended Bet: Lyle Taylor to score anytime at 7/4 with Bet365 – BET HERE

Burton Albion vs Sunderland

Two of last season’s Championship sides go head-to-head at the Pirelli Stadium as Burton Albion take on Sunderland as two sides attempt to return to the second tier at the first time of asking after their relegation last term. Burton are unbeaten in their last two matches after a horrendous start, but could slip into the relegation zone with a loss. Jack Ross’s Black Cats remain one of the few undefeated sides in their first season back in League One for over 30 years and they’ll be looking to emulate what they did last year when they beat their opponents at the Pirelli. Key man Josh Maja will be looking to continue his excellent goal-scoring form, whilst Liam Boyce will be hoping to extend his goals tally to five. The game will undoubtedly be an exciting one for the neutral, but we are predicting a Sunderland who have been excellent on the road this season to win the match and mount a charge towards the top of the table.

Recommended Bet: Sunderland to win at 23/20 with Ladbrokes – BET HERE

Coventry City vs Barnsley

Barnsley travel to the Ricoh Arena to face a Coventry City side who have been far from consistent this campaign. The travellers sit just outside the automatic promotion spots in the third division and a win could see Daniel Stendel’s team put pressure on league leaders Peterborough United. Like their promotion rivals, Barnsley remain one of the unbeaten sides in the league, but face a tough task to remain without a loss as they travel to face Coventry, who are coming off the back of an excellent 2-1 win away to an Oxford United side who have looked impressive in recent weeks. Stendel’s side have looked most impressive on the road this term, with one of their best wins coming away to Rochdale where they won 4-0 and we are predicting Barnsley to pick up where they left off in their last match on the road with a win.

Recommended Bet: Barnsley to win at 20/23 with Betfair – BET HERE

Fleetwood Town vs Accrington Stanley

Joey Barton’s Fleetwood Town return to the Highbury Stadium after an impressive draw against promotion rivals Sunderland to play Accrington Stanley, who are undefeated in their last six matches. Town head into the game knowing a win could see them leapfrog ahead of some of their promotion rivals if results were to go their way, but a loss could also see them drop out of the playoff places. Barton’s men have lost just once this term and are once again greeted by a tough task as they take on John Coleman’s Stanley, who have drawn their last three all by a 1-1 scoreline. Accrington’s last win came away to Oxford late last month, where they won 3-2. However, despite Coleman’s men looking like a solid outfit, we are predicting Fleetwood to win the game and to emulate their performance from last week against the Black Cats, where they were unlucky to only come away with one point.

Recommended Bet: Fleetwood Town to win at evens with SkyBet – BET HERE

Luton Town vs Bristol Rovers

Luton Town return to Kenilworth Road to face a struggling Bristol Rovers side who sit in the League One relegation zone, having not won a game in their last four matches. The game is in fact also an important one for the hosts, who haven’t won in their last two matches and could even be leapfrogged by Rovers if they were to be beaten by the travelling team. A win for either side would ignite some well needed momentum for their season, as the third tier table begins to take shape come Saturday evening. The sides haven’t met since 2016, where the reverse fixture ended in a 2-0 win for Rovers. The corresponding fixture three years ago came in League Two, where Bristol won the game in the 94th minute of the game. However, we are backing the hosts to get their first win against a struggling Rovers since 2002 this weekend.

Recommended Bet: Luton Town to score in both halves at 7/4 with Bet365 – BET HERE

Peterborough United vs Portsmouth

One of the ties of the footballing weekend takes place at the ABAX Stadium as table toppers Peterborough United take on second place Portsmouth in a tie which could go a long way to deciding who lifts the League One title next year. Steve Evans’ United have been nothing short of excellent this season and remain undefeated in their last eight matches, but the hosts welcome another undefeated side in Portsmouth, who have looked in emphatic form of late. A win for the hosts would see them extend a gap between them and their rivals, whilst a win for Kenny Jackett’s men would see them top the table for the first time this season. Both sides have looked good this campaign, but we are backing the hosts to edge out a close contest in front of what is expected to be a bumper crowd.

Recommended Bet: Peterborough United to win at 31/20 with Ladbrokes – BET HERE

Plymouth Argyle vs Blackpool

Plymouth Argyle currently sit at the foot of the third tier after failing to win any of their last nine matches, but after two games on the road they welcome Blackpool to Home Park this weekend. The away side have been one of the surprise packages so far this season, despite being tipped as one of the early-season relegation contenders prior to the 2018/19 campaign. The hosts have failed to score in their last two and have been on the end of some high-scoring defeats this term. Therefore, we are expecting the away side to run out victors this weekend, especially after only being beaten once so far in League One this term.

Recommended Bet: Blackpool to win at 13/10 with Betfair – BET HERE

Rochdale vs Gillingham

Two strugglers in League One face off at Spotland Stadium this weekend as Rochdale face off against Gillingham. Both sides sit in 14th and 15th position respectively and the winner of the tie could be huge for one of the teams’ seasons. Dale are in the better form of the two sides, having went unbeaten in the last three matches in all competitions, with their latest tie ending in a 3-3 draw to Scunthorpe. Gillingham on the other hand haven’t won a game since the early part of August and are in desperate need of a win to turn their season around, but with a tough trip to a resurgent Rochdale side, we are backing the hosts to run out victors in what will be a close contest.

Recommended Bet: Rochdale to win at 17/20 with SkyBet – BET HERE

Shrewsbury Town vs Southend United

A relegation six pointer takes place this Saturday, as Southend United travel to Greenhous Meadow to take on a struggling Shrewsbury Town side who sit in 22nd without a win. Town have actually made a slight turnaround in their form, having drawn their last two league games and even beating Manchester City Under-21’s. Southend have been involved in some cracking fixtures of late, with high-scoring matches being the nature of the ties. The game between the sides could be a cagey affair, but with some of the talent on show in both sides we are backing the match to have three goals within it.

Recommended Bet: Over 2.5 goals (Best priced at 11/10 with Bet365) – BET HERE

Walsall vs Doncaster Rovers

Promotion hopefuls Walsall take on Doncaster Rovers at the Bescot Stadium this weekend as two sides in excellent form go head-to-head for a chance at cementing a place in the playoff places. Walsall remain undefeated, but after back-to-back draws in League One they’ll be hoping to return with a win. Whilst Doncaster beat Luton in their last match at home. Both sides have looked good in patches this campaign and despite struggling in domestic cup competitions, have been placing emphasis on their league campaigns. Previous matches have always been exciting between the pair, with the corresponding fixture ending in a 4-2 win for Walsall earlier this year. And we are backing a similar outcome this weekend, with an exciting match ending in a win for the hosts.

Recommended Bet: Walsall to win 7/4 with Ladbrokes – BET HERE

Wycombe Wanderers vs Oxford United

Adams Park will host an important tie between Wycombe Wanderers and Oxford United this weekend, as both sides look for an all-important win to lift them away from the dreaded relegation zone. The two teams come into the game off the back of a loss and both sides are without a win in two matches. The travelling side have been arguably the better of the two sides, with their most impressive display coming away to Sunderland at the start of September. Oxford also have some impressive players in their side and we are backing the travelling team to sweep aside Wycombe to lift themselves out of the League One relegation zone.

Recommended Bet: Oxford United to win 21/10 with SkyBet – BET HERE
