League One Round-Up: 27/10/2018

Paddy Power offer bannerAccrington Stanley vs Portsmouth

A top four clash in League One will go down at the Crown Ground on Saturday afternoon as John Coleman’s Accrington Stanley play host to table toppers Portsmouth. Kenny Jackett’s side have lost just once this campaign and are one of only three sides to do so and the former Premier League regulars have cemented themselves at the top with 10 wins and four draws from 15 matches in the third tier. A win for the hosts, which is priced at an attractive 2/1 with William Hill, could take them into third if rivals Sunderland weren’t to win this weekend, whilst a win for the away side, which is priced at 11/8 with Bet365, could bridge a further gap between them and their rivals in the division. The draw would be the fifth of Portsmouth’s campaign and the sixth of Accrington’s and is priced at 23/10 with Bet Victor, but we are backing over 2.5 goals in this one after both sides have seen three or more goals in a tie on at least six occasions this term.

Recommended bet: Over 2.5 goals at 11/10 with Betway – BET HERE

AFC Wimbledon vs Luton Town

Relegation threatened AFC Wimbledon return to Kingsmeadow to face a Luton side in pursuit of promotion this term. The hosts have been on a downward spiral since their 2-1 win over Oxford late last month and have now lost each of their last five matches, scoring just one goal in between. In contrast, the away team are in fine form and have won their last two matches, with their most recent coming with a 4-1 win against rivals Accrington, who are also in the top six. An unlikely home win for the first time since September is priced at 11/4 with Bet 365, whilst the draw is 12/5 with the same bookmaker. However, after losing just once in eight League One matches, we are backing Luton to run out winners here.

Recommended bet: Luton Town to win 2-0 at 9/1 with Paddy Power – BET HERE

Barnsley vs Bristol Rovers

League One action returns to Oakwell for the first time in three matches this weekend as promotion hopefuls Barnsley continue in their pursuit of returning to the Championship at the first time of asking as they welcome 19th place Bristol Rovers. The away side are actually the in-form side of the two with a win and a loss in their last two, whilst the hosts have surprisingly lost the last two matches after a good run in the division. However, the hosts are excellent at home and haven’t lost here all season and another win for Barnsley here is priced at ½ with William Hill, whilst the draw is 3/1 with Bet 365 and an away win is an attractive 5/1 with Betway. However, we are backing the impressive Kieffer Moore to get his eighth goal of the campaign in this one after impressing in the 14 matches he has played this term.

Recommended bet: Kieffer Moore to score first at 11/4 with Sky Bet – BET HERE

Burton Albion vs Peterborough United

Nigel Clough’s Burton return to the Pirelli Stadium this weekend to face title contenders Peterborough United as the hosts look to extend their three-game unbeaten streak with a standout win on their home turf. Steve Evans’ United looked devastating after ten matches, but a 4-0 loss at home to Barnsley earlier this month was a shock to the system and one that has had a knock-on effect in recent games, with a 1-0 loss to Accrington also not so long ago. However, a 1-0 win last time out is the perfect preparation for their trip to the Pirelli for the first time in two years and an away win can be found at an attractive 9/5 with William Hill, whilst the draw is 5/2 with the same bookmaker. A home win for Burton is 7/5 with Betfair, but we are backing goals in this one, which has been a trend of both sides’ season.

Recommended bet: Both teams to score at 4/7 with Unibet – BET HERE

Coventry City vs Doncaster Rovers

An in-form Coventry City return to the Ricoh Arena on the hunt for a fifth-straight win in League One against a Doncaster side just above them in the table and without a win in two games. Mark Robins’ home team have been outstanding recently, with their best win coming last time out to strugglers Bradford with a 4-2 victory at Valley Parade. However, they return to the Ricoh for the first time in two games against a tough side, who were narrowly beaten by the impressive Sunderland in midweek. The sides last met here back in 2015 and the match finished in a 2-2 draw that day and the same result here is priced at 23/10 with William Hill, whilst a fifth straight win in the league for the hosts is an attractive 13/10 with Betway. A much-needed three points is a surprising 21/10 with Bet 365, but we are backing over 2.5 goals in this one after both sides have been involved in a number of games this season with over three goals.

Recommended bet: Over 2.5 goals at 10/11 with Bet Victor – BET HERE

Fleetwood Town vs Blackpool

Joey Barton’s Fleetwood return to League One action in need of a win against a Blackpool side on a two-game winning streak after wins against Scunthorpe and AFC Wimbledon within the space of three days. The hosts lost 1-0 on back-to-back occasions away to the top two in the division last weekend and in midweek and the Cod Army will be pleased to be returning to Highbury Stadium. A win for either side would fire them into the top ten, whilst a loss could be disastrous in their season aspirations. A home win is 13/8 with William Hill, whilst an away win is 9/5 with the same bookmaker. However, we are backing a draw in this one between two sides who’s style we feel could result in a stalemate.

Recommended bet: Match to be drawn at 11/5 with Unibet – BET HERE

Gillingham vs Bradford City

Two sides with the worst defensive records in the division meet in a hugely important tie at Priestfield Stadium this weekend as Gillingham take on bottom of the table Bradford. The away side have seen their form go from bad to worse this season and 11 losses from 15 has left them leading the way as the side to finish bottom of the pile. Gillingham have been slightly better with just eight losses, but their defence has already leaked 28 goals this term and that has to change if Saturday’s hosts hope to stay in the division come next year. A loss for either side could be fatal and it’s the hosts who are the slight favourites at 11/10 with Bet Victor, whilst an unlikely away win is 23/10 with William Hill. The draw is 12/5 with Bet 365, but it is under 2.5 goals which we are backing between two sides who have rarely threatened the opposition goals throughout this term.

Recommended bet: Under 2.5 goals at evens with Bet 365 – BET HERE

Oxford United vs Shrewsbury Town

League One strugglers Oxford return to the Kassam Stadium in pursuit of a third win which would likely take them out of the bottom four against a Shrewsbury Town coming into the game off the back of an emphatic 3-1 win over Barnsley in midweek. The hosts are currently unbeaten in four matches and have made somewhat of a resurgence, but their hard work could easily be undone here if they were to be beaten by Town who currently sit three spots above them in 18th. A vital home win is 8/5 with Bet 365, whilst the draw is 9/4 with William Hill, but after their magnificent win in midweek which included some magnificent football we are backing Shrewsbury to win this one in a close contest.

Recommended bet: Shrewsbury Town to win 2-1 at 19/2 with Bet Victor – BET HERE

Rochdale vs Charlton Athletic

Lee Bowyer’s Charlton travel to the Spotland Stadium in pursuit of another win which would get them back into the promotion mix against a Rochdale side who have looked extremely average this term. The hosts lost last time out in a dismal 3-0 defeat away to Wycombe, whilst the travelling Londoners drew 1-1 with Oxford United, extending their unbeaten run to two games. The away win is priced at 9/5 with Bet Victor, whilst a home win is 11/8 with the same bookmaker. A draw in this one can be found at 12/5 with Betfair, but we are backing the impressive summer arrival Lyle Taylor to make it two in two with another goal here.

Recommended bet: Lyle Taylor to score first at 11/2 with Sky Bet – BET HERE

Scunthorpe United vs Plymouth Argyle

Two sides who were tipped as potential top ten contenders face off against one another at Glanford Park on Saturday afternoon as an out of form Scunthorpe United look to put an end to their four-game losing streak against a Plymouth Argyle side who will be hoping a 3-1 midweek win against Gillingham can be the start of an upturn in their form which has left them in the bottom four. The sides have already met here this year and it was Scunthorpe who took the contest 2-0 and the same result can be found at evens with Unibet, whilst the draw is 5/2 with Paddy Power. However, we feel there is great value in the away win in this one and we are backing the side who have shown some fighting spirit to prevail here in a close contest.

Recommended bet: Plymouth Argyle to win 1-0 at 12/1 with Bet 365 – BET HERE

Sunderland vs Southend United

Jack Ross’ Sunderland return to their beloved Stadium of Light this weekend for the first time since early-September as they go in pursuit of their fourth-straight win in League One against a threatening Southend United side who they have not faced since 2007. The last meeting between the pair ended in a 4-0 win in the corresponding fixture, whilst Southend took the spoils at Roots Hall in a 3-1 victory back in 2006. Aside from table toppers Portsmouth, the hosts are looking like the obvious contenders for the title this weekend and despite Southend looking good in midweek when they beat Walsall 3-0, we are backing the home team to win this one. An away win against the side who have not lost on Wearside in the league this season is 3/1 with Betway, whilst the draw is 5/2 with Betfair.

Recommended bet: Sunderland to win 4-0 at 40/1 with Bet Victor – BET HERE

Walsall vs Wycombe

The Bescot Stadium hosts a round 16 match in League One between two mid-table sides this weekend as Dean Keates’ Walsall look to end their two-game losing streak with a win over a resurgent Wycombe Wanderers managed by Gareth Ainsworth. The away side have won their last two matches against Scunthorpe on Rochdale at home, scoring three goals in both, but they travel away from home for the first time in three matches to play a Walsall team who have looked threatening on home soil. The hosts have lost their last two, but still come into this as the slight favourites at 11/8 with Bet 365, whilst an away win is 2/1 with Betway. The draw is 5.2 with Bet Victor, but we are backing the in-form Adebayo Akinfenwa to score in this one, making it two in two matches and five for the campaign.

Recommended bet: Adebayo Akinfenwa to score first at 13/2 with Sky Bet – BET HERE
