League Two Round-Up – 22/04/2019

League Two Round-Up – 22/04/2019

Oldham Athletic vs Mansfield Town

Oldham Athletic will be aiming to continue their five game unbeaten run when they welcome Mansfield Town to Boundary Park on Monday afternoon, with Peter Wild’s men drawing twice and winning three times in the last few weeks. Despite winning three on the bounce in the games immediately following Paul Scholes’ departure, Oldham have earned only two points from their last two encounters, first against Swindon and more recently away at Cheltenham Town, the latter of which ended 0-0. Mansfield have also enjoyed a solid run of form over the past three weeks, winning three of their past four matches and keeping two clean sheets. Last time out, they saw off Morecambe on home soil in a 4-0 thrashing of their opponents as Malvind Benning, C.J. Hamilton, Krystian Pearce and Jacob Mellis got on the scoresheet. Skybet have the hosts to win at 2/1 while Bet365 have the visitors to win at 6/4.

MK Dons vs Port Vale

Stadium MK will see Port Vale and MK Dons meet for the second time in League 2 this season, with the hosts hoping to win two games in a row after the preceding results saw them beaten by Lincoln City and Tranmere Rovers within the space of a week. Their form has been turbulent over the last five games, losing twice and winning three times, with their most recent victory coming last time out versus Notts County through two goals in the second half from David Wheeler and Chuks Aneke. MK Dons were the victors when this pair last met with the scoreline reading 0-2 at the end of the ninety minutes. Port Vale will be desperate to pick up some much needed points in this one with John Askey’s team suffering defeat in three of their last five outings, including two losses in their last two games. Upon the visit of Stevenage in their most immediate matchup, Port Vale were on the wrong end of an embarrassing 1-4 scoreline with Christian Montano bagging the only goal of the day for his side when they were already two goals down. Bet365 have MK Dons to win at 13/20, and Skybet have Port Vale to win at 3/1.

Recommended Bet: Over 2.5 goals at 21/20 with Bet365 – BET HERE

Yeovil Town vs Colchester United

Yeovil Town and Colchester United go head to head on monday afternoon with kick off set for 3pm at Huish Park Stadium. The home side are in a real predicament at the moment as they occupy twenty-third position and sit two points from safety with just nine wins for the entire campaign, their last coming towards the very beginning of last month. Since then, they have been defeated a total of seven times in eight fixtures, failing to score in six and conceding fifteen. When they made the journey to Crewe Alexandra in their most recent game, it was the home side who earned maximum points in yet another disappointing performance from Yeovil as Charlie Kirk and Tom Lowery scored the goals for David Artell’s team. Colchester United have a very different battle on their hands as the season comes to a close, with the side placed in ninth and aiming to finish in the play-off spots which they sit only two points behind. Their form will need to see a turnaround if they are to earn promotion this season however, winning only twice in the past seven games and losing the other five. The victory against Grimsby Town last Friday will set them up perfectly to begin a winning streak ahead of the end of season. Skybet have Yeovil Town to win at 14/5 and Colchester United to win at 10/11.

Recommended Bet: Colchester win and BTTS at 10/3 with Bet365 – BET HERE

Lincoln City vs Tranmere Rovers

Table toppers Lincoln City will look to bounce back from a disappointing and surprising loss last time out when they host Tranmere Rovers at the Sincil Bank Stadium on Monday. With eighty-four points after forty-three games and an eight point gap between themselves and Mansfield Town in second position, Lincoln are almost certain to be crowned champions. They have endured quite a large amount of draws however, including three in their last six, something they will undoubtedly be aiming to change in the few fixtures that remain. In their last match, Lincoln were defeated away from home upon their trip to Carlisle United as the hosts came out victorious in a 1-0 win as the visitors were reduced to ten men in the first half. Tranmere Rovers have an excellent chance of promotion as they are placed in fifth spot, four points from third place and automatic promotion while also having a gap of seven points between themselves and Carlisle United who are just outside the play-off positions. Tranmere have lost two of their last four matches, with just one victory in that time. Their meeting versus Forest Green Rovers on Friday finished 0-1 in favour of their opponents as Lewis Scoble grabbed the solitary goal of the ninety minutes. Skybet have Lincoln City to win at 17/20 and Bet365 have Tranmere to win at 3/1.

Recommended Bet: James Norwood to score anytime at 7/4 with Bet365 – BET HERE

Grimsby Town vs Carlisle United

Grimsby Town meet with Carlisle United at Blundell Park on Monday as the hosts try to get back to winning ways having not come out with three points in any of their last ten encounters. Grimsby remain in the bottom half in seventeenth place with fifty points on the board and twenty-one defeats this season, and can consider themselves rather fortunate that this patch of bad form has hit at a time when they are safe from the danger of relegation. Grimsby have been on the losing side three times in the last four games, with their only point during that period coming away to Morecambe thanks to a late Charles Vernam strike. Carlisle United are in quite the contrasting position as they attempt to make their way into the top seven and compete in the play-offs of next month. Steven Pressley will be concerned with his teams recent form, winning twice and losing twice in their past four matches, not getting a single goal in those defeats, both of which ended 3-0 in favour of the opponents. Carlisle’s last fixture came as a tight victory over league leaders Lincoln City with the help of a red card for Jason Shackell, and Mike Jones was on hand to net the goal that confirmed all three precious points. Skybet have Grimsby Town to win at 21/10, while Bet365 have Carlisle to win at 5/4.

Recommended Bet: Carlisle win to nil at 11/4 with Skybet – BET HERE

Swindon Town vs Crewe Alexandra

The last time that these two faced off against one another, one goal from Charlie Kirk was all it took for Crewe to earn a 1-0 victory. They meet again on Monday at The Energy Check County Ground, with the hosts in twelfth, two points clear of their upcoming opponents who hold fourteenth spot. Swindon Town have amassed sixty-one points up to now and in spite of the fact there are four positions between themselves and the play-off spots, they are still well in with a chance of taking seventh as Exeter City are only four points clear of Richie Wellens’ men. The manager will be unhappy with his side’s displays over the past few weeks, failing to take opportunities that would have thrown them right into the fight for promotion. They have drawn each of the past four matches, two of which finished goalless and Friday’s away to Cambridge being the most recent. Crewe Alexandra are unlikely to take part in the battle for promotion and hold fourteenth, with more losses than victories thus far. They have won four of their last six outings, scoring fourteen and shipping seven in those games. Their most impressive performance was certainly the 6-1 humiliation of Crawley Town on home soil, although they would have been disheartened with the defeats to Cheltenham Town and Port Vale which put a temporary halt to their winning streak. Since those setbacks, Crewe have won two on the bounce, keeping a clean sheet in both and netting five goals overall. Skybet are offering odds of 21/20 for a Swindon win and 5/2 in favour of Crewe Alexandra.

Recommended Bet: Crewe win to nil at 11/2 with Skybet – BET HERE

Macclesfield Town vs Newport County

Macclesfield Town have been beaten in each of their last two fixtures, failing to win in four of their last five games and not keeping the ball out of their own net in any of those meetings. The Moss Rose ground will see them attempt to climb back up the table and away from the drop zone which they sit just two points clear of having earned thirty-nine points as of now. Behind them are Yeovil Town and Notts County, but everything could soon change in the final weeks due to the bottom three being so close together. Macclesfield’s last victory was at home to play-off contenders Exeter City by three goals to two through a brace from Harry Smith and one by Michael Rose from the penalty spot. Since then it’s been disappointing however, with Forest Green Rovers beating them 2-0 and Northampton Town getting a 3-1 win after Smith equalised for Macclesfield in the first half. The visitors on the other hand are absolutely safe from any threat of relegation and hold eleventh spot after playing forty-two games. They are only two points from the last play-off place so there is everything to play for from Michael Flynn’s point of view, with a tense end of season coming up Newport will need a continuation of their positive six match unbeaten run, in which they have gotten three points four times. Bet365 have Macclesfield to win at 9/5 and Newport to win at 6/4.

Recommended Bet: Newport to score 3+ goals at 5/1 with Skybet – BET HERE

Bury vs Northampton Town

Neither of these sides will be content with their form as they prepare for this clash, with Bury fighting for automatic promotion to avoid the uncertainty of the play-offs in May and Northampton Town attempting to earn a respectable finish in the standings come the end of the campaign. With four defeats in their last five fixtures, Bury are not enjoying the sort of results that are expected of a promotion chasing team, conceding three goals in each of those losses. Their sole victory during that time came against Colchester United who are also in contention to earn promotion through the play offs, while their most recent beating was handed to them by Newport County at Rodney Parade on Friday as two from Mickey Demetriou and one scored by Jamille Matt cancelled out Nick Maynard’s early equaliser. Northampton Town have put fifty-seven points on the board so far and simply have only pride to play for in what remains of the season with twenty points separating them from the relegation zone. They have been the victors just once in six matches, maintaining only one clean sheet and suffering defeat at the hands of Cheltenham Town and Port Vale, netting once in either affair. Their last matchup was more of a mismatch, with Northampton putting three in the back of Kieran O’Hara’s net and sealing an impressive three points. Skybet have Bury to win this one at 7/10, Bet365 have Northampton to win at 9/2.

Recommended Bet: Over 3.5 goals at 7/4 with Skybet – BET HERE

Crawley Town vs Notts County

Crawley Town have little to compete for as they have completed the objective of staying in League 2 for this season, with twelve points between them and the drop zone. With forty-nine points to their name up to now and two victories in their past two fixtures, Gabriele Cioffi will be expecting his squad to beat bottom side Notts County on Monday, especially considering his side are at home. Prior to those successive wins, Crawley had been seen off by Lincoln City, Morecambe and Forest Green Rovers, failing to find the net in two of those ties. However, their performances took a turn for the best following the encounter with Forest Green Rovers, beating relegation fighters Yeovil Town by one goal to nil and defeating Exeter City at their own patch as the match finished 1-3, two goals from Reece Grego-Cox helping them on their way to three points in that one. Notts County will need top-scorer Kane Hemmings to be back to his best in this one having not gotten on the scoresheet in his last two appearances, and with three defeats in their last six games Notts County will not be confident in their abilities to come out victorious from this fixture. Skybet have Crawley to win at 13/8 and Notts County to win at 6/4.

Recommended Bet: Crawley to win and BTTS “No” at 4/1 with Skybet – BET HERE

Stevenage vs Exeter City

The Lamex Stadium is the venue as Exeter seek to further their push for a promotion play-off spot in League 2 while Stevenage are chasing behind them in tenth place, two points the difference. Dino Maamria’s men have come out on top each of their last three games, not conceding on two occasions and finding the net nine times. These results were necessary after they had not won for three matches and a resounding 1-4 demolition of Port Vale last weekend has put them in good stead ahead of this vital game against fellow promotion contenders. Exeter will be by no means an easy opponent for Stevenage despite their poor form in recent weeks, losing three of their last five matches and winning only a single tie during that time. Losses versus Mansfield, Macclesfield and Crawley Town have put them in real danger of losing their play-off spot to one of the teams below them, though they can be reassured in their ability to beat Stevenage having already done so earlier in the campaign away from home. Bet365 have Stevenage to win at 7/5, Skybet have Exeter to win at 19/10.

Recommended Bet: Over 3.5 goals at 3/1 with Skybet – BET HERE

Forest Green Rovers vs Cambridge United

The home side for this affair will have their eyes firmly set on ensuring their spot in next month’s play-off and a victory here would go a long way in terms of making that happen. They currently sit in sixth with seventy points, five behind the automatic spots and five clear of Exeter City below them. Four wins in five has helped them massively in their aims for the remainder of the campaign, keeping three clean sheets and suffering a loss only once which came on home soil versus MK Dons. A close match against Tranmere Rovers saw Forest Green Rovers take an unexpected victory over the ninety minutes thanks to Lewis Scoble grabbing the only goal. Cambridge United looked in real danger of getting relegated to the National League earlier in the campaign but are now safely nine points clear of the drop, seven points ahead of Macclesfield directly below them. They have not come out with three points in four of their last five games however and will be desperate to finish what has been a difficult season on a positive note, with their one victory in that time coming away to Bury at the start of April. Skybet have Forest Green Rovers to win at 17/20 and Cambridge to win at 3/1.

Recommended Bet: Forest Green win to nil at 9/4 with Skybet – BET HERE

Morecambe vs Cheltenham Town

Morecambe will host Cheltenham Town at the Globe Arena on Monday in their bid to push for as high a finish as possible after ensuring safety from relegation. They are positioned in twentieth spot after forty-three matches and have forty-seven points, but will be disheartened by their results over the last weeks and months as they have been on the winning end of a scoreline just once in six matches. Currently, Morecambe are winless in three games, drawing twice, both 1-1, and suffering defeat went they journeyed to Mansfield Town last Friday who beat them comfortably by four goals to nil. In sixteenth sit Cheltenham Town with fifty-four points, quite a bit ahead of their next opponents and distant from the relegation places. There is little chance of a top half finish for Cheltenham which will no doubt be disheartening for supporters, but a streak of five matches without defeat has improved the mood around the Jonny-Rocks Stadium. Three stalemates on the bounce have come in their most immediate outings, taking a point in the games versus Exeter City, Lincoln City and Oldham Athletic. Skybet have Morecambe to win at 7/5 and Cheltenham to take all three points at 9/5.

Recommended Bet: Under 2.5 goals at 4.5 with Skybet – BET HERE
