League Two Round-Up: 15/09/2018

League Two Round-Up: 15/09/2018

Round eight of the League Two campaign kicks off this weekend, as the fourth tier schedule begins to heat up. The eighth instalment of matches provides some intriguing matches, some of which will go a long way in shaping the fourth tier table come Saturday afternoon. All 12 matches take place on Saturday, which we’ve rounded up below, as well as providing a recommended bet for each tie.

Carlisle United vs Tranmere Rovers

Brunton Park hosts an all-important tie for Carlisle United, as they take on Tranmere Rovers. United sit just outside of the automatic promotion spots in the fourth tier and a win against the struggling side could see them even top the table if results were to go their way. United have lost twice this term, but their recent win on the road to Cambridge United propelled them into the promotion spots they crave to be in come next year. Tranmere are without a win in three in the league, but do remain unbeaten after back-to-back draws. Tranmere are known to be a side regimented in defence, with an eye-catching counter attacking style, but they run into a Carlisle side who have looked excellent in recent weeks and we are backing the hosts to pick up the win in a low-scoring encounter.

Recommended Bet: Carlisle United to win at 17/10 with Betfair – BET HERE

Cheltenham Town vs Crewe Alexandra

Whaddon Road hosts Cheltenham Town vs Crewe Alexandra this Saturday, as two sides at the wrong end of the fourth tier head into the match in search of an all-important win. Both teams actually picked up a win in their last outing, with travellers Crewe beating Tranmere 4-3 away from home in what was an exciting match for the neutral. Whilst Town beat Northampton 3-1 away from home and will be looking to build on that huge result. Crewe beat their opponents in the reverse fixture earlier this year, but we are backing the hosts to pull off a similar style result to the corresponding tie in 2017, where they won 1-0.

Recommended Bet: Cheltenham Town to win at 7/5 with SkyBet – BET HERE

Colchester United vs Cambridge United

Colchester United place Cambridge United at the Community Stadium on Saturday afternoon in an important game for both sides, but for contrasting reasons. The hosts have lost just once this campaign and sit in the playoff spots of the fourth tier, with hope of a return to the League One in the woodwork. Whilst Cambridge have picked up just seven points and are flirting with the wrong end of the table. The hosts go into the game with full expectation after going unbeaten in two matches, whilst the away side look to put their recent loss behind them with a win that would see them leap to mid-table. The recent head-to-head matches suggest Cambridge hold all of the cards, but we are backing the hosts to get the win in this one after impressing early on this term.

Recommended Bet: Colchester United to win at 21/20 with Bet365 – BET HERE

Crawley Town vs Morecambe

Morecambe travel to Crawley Town in desperate need of achieving only their second win of the season. A loss at Broadfield Stadium could see the side one place outside of the drop zone slip into the relegation spots, but a win could see them soar to safety. Crawley have to go into this tie as the side expecting a win, especially on home soil and after three wins in their last four in all competitions, Crawley will be hopeful of extending their good form. Morecambe have lost their last four matches; therefore, we are backing the hosts to run out victors in this one.

Recommended Bet: Crawley Town to win at 19/10 with Betfair – BET HERE

Grimsby Town vs Oldham Athletic

Strugglers Grimsby Town return to Blundell Park in need of a win to not only lift them away from the dreaded relegation spots, but also to give them a well-needed momentum swing after some horrendous recent performances. They face an Oldham Athletic side who know a win could see them in the playoff places, but after a recent loss at home to Newport, they could also do with a momentum booster. Oldham have played some of their best stuff on the road this season and after Grimsby’s awful form of late, which has seen them lose 4-0 to Bury last week, we are backing Oldham to run out victors.

Recommended Bet: Sam Surridge to score first at 6/1 with Bet365 – BET HERE

Macclesfield vs Lincoln City

Table toppers Lincoln City travel to Moss Rose to play a Macclesfield side who haven’t won any of their last 30 matches. City had been nothing short of outstanding prior to their recent match against Crawley, but after a closely contested loss, City will be looking to bounce back with a win that could potentially reopen the point gap at the top of the fourth tier. John Akinde has been the man firing the goals in for Lincoln this term and the 29-year-old will be licking his lips at the prospect of playing against one of the English Football League’s worst defensive sides. A win against top of the table for Macclesfield would certainly be a statement to the rest of the league, letting sides know they are still alive and kicking, but we are backing the side who top the League Two table to come out victorious again this Saturday.

Recommended Bet: Lincoln City to win at 10/11 with SkyBet) – BET HERE

Mansfield vs Exeter

Mansfield host Exeter City this weekend as two of this season’s impressers go head-to-head in one of the ties of the weekend in League Two. The hosts remain unbeaten, but after four draws and just two wins this season, Mansfield sit in mid-table. Had the hosts turned those draws into wins they would’ve certainly been near the top of the table, but they could live to regret that feat this weekend as they play against one of this season’s top teams. Exeter travel to Field Mill having hit a bump in their League Two campaign, but after picking up back-to-back wins against Yeovil Town in the Checkatrade Trophy and a recent 5-1 hammering over Notts County, we are backing the away side to put an end to Mansfield’s unbeaten league campaign.

Recommended Bet: Exeter to win at 10/3 with Ladbrokes – BET HERE

MK Dons vs Forest Green Rovers

Stadium MK hosts yet another excellent spectacle, as the unbeaten MK Dons host another unbeaten side in Forest Green Rovers this weekend. Both sides look to be well in with a chance of promotion this season after a decent start to life in League Two, but a loss for either side could be disastrous in their promotion hopes. The tie promises to be a close contest on the evidence of their recent matches, with the hosts conceding only three this term. And we are backing Paul Tisdale’s side to pick up their fourth victory of the campaign against their promotion rivals.

Recommended Bet: MK Dons to win at evens with Betfair – BET HERE

Newport County vs Yeovil Town

Newport County return to their home ground of the Newport Stadium as they host promotion hopefuls Yeovil Town who are undefeated in their last five matches. The hosts are also undefeated and currently sit second in the table after picking up four-straight-wins in the fourth division. Newport are actually the in-form side in the division and will be looking to top the table come Saturday evening as they sit second only on goal difference to Lincoln. Both teams recently lost in the Checkatrade Trophy, but after identical 1-0 wins away from home, the game this weekend is set to be a tight contest. The game promises to be an exciting one, much like the pair’s recent meetings, but we are backing Newport to win the game to remain in the automatic promotion spots.

Recommended Bet: Newport County to win at 5/4 with SkyBet – BET HERE

Notts County vs Stevenage

Rock bottom of the League Two table Notts County return to action in the fourth tier at their home ground Meadow Lane to face a Stevenage side heading into the game off the back of a win against Macclesfield. County are without a win this season and have been hammered on most occasions this season, with their only point coming on the opening day in a 0-0 draw against Colchester. Their biggest defeat was their last, when they were beaten 5-1 by Exeter away from home. And we don’t envisage Harry Kewell’s side finding any sort of turnaround this weekend and therefore we are backing Stevenage to deal yet another blow to the side odds on for relegation to the national league.

Recommended Bet: Stevenage to win  at 19/10 with Ladbrokes – BET HERE

Port Vale vs Northampton Town

Vale Park is the host for the tie between two sides flirting with relegation, as hosts Port Vale take on fellow strugglers Northampton Town. Both sides have picked up just one point in their last two and a win here could be the momentum changers in their season. The recent fixtures suggest the game between the pair will be an exciting one, with the corresponding tie ending in a 3-2 victory for Northampton and the reverse fixture ending in a 2-1 win for the hosts. But on this season’s form, we are predicting the two sides to struggle in this one, with under 2.5 goals in the match this weekend.

Recommended Bet: Under 2.5 goals at 4/5 with Betfair – BET HERE

Swindon Town vs Bury

The final tie of the weekend takes place at the County Ground, as Swindon Town play host to Bury. The hosts are undefeated in their last five outings, winning their last two in both League Two and the Checkatrade Trophy. Bury are in a rich vein of form in the league, winning their last match 4-0 against Grimsby and one prior against Morecambe 3-2. However, the travellers are yet to pick up a point on the road this season and they play against a side in the playoffs who have achieved their position from winning their home matches. Therefore, we are backing the hosts to win this one, with Phil Brown’s men looking to cement their name as genuine promotion candidates.

Recommended Bet: Bury to win 2-1 at 17/2 with Bet365 – BET HERE
