League Two Round-Up: 01/09/2018

Bury vs Morecambe

Gigg Lane hosts an all-important clash between hosts Bury and travelling side Morecambe, as both sides look to mount a push up the League Two table. The home side have failed to win any of their last four matches, whilst Morecambe haven’t drawn in five matches. Both teams have just one win this term, yet a win could see the sides go as high as mid-table. The tie will be the first time the two teams have met since 2016, where Bury ran out 4-1 winners in a cracking game for the neutral in the Checkatrade trophy. The game will be the first league game between the sides for three years, with neither team meeting one another since 2015, where Morecambe won 2-1. The game promises to be an intriguing one, with both sides intent on defending and winning the game on the counter attack, but we are backing the home side to take maximum points in this huge match.

Recommended Bet: Bury to win at 3/4 with Sky Bet – BET HERE

Cheltenham Town vs Colchester United

Cheltenham Town host Colchester United as two English Football League veterans clash for the third time this year. The corresponding fixture at Whaddon Road took place earlier this month in the Carabao Cup, with the home side winning the game on penalties after a 2-2 draw in normal time. It was the away side who probably deserved to win the game with their dominant possession statistics, but Town advanced. Prior to their recent loss, Colchester have been in fine form in the fourth tier, with an impressive 6-0 win their highlight of the season so far. And we are backing United to get revenge on the side who sit just outside of the relegation zone with a win this Saturday

Recommended Bet: Colchester to win at Evens with Bet 365 – BET HERE

Crewe vs Macclesfield Town

18th place Crewe take on 23rd place Macclesfield Town in what many would see as the cliché six pointer at the Alexandra Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The home side have failed to win any of their last four, whilst Macclesfield have one of the worst records in Europe with no wins in their last 28 outings on a football pitch. The hosts started their campaign in the best possible fashion, with a 6-0 win over Morecambe, but have failed to win since and have drawn just once at home to MK Dons. It may have been a torrid season so far for John McGreal’s side, but we are backing the home side to end their misery with a big win at home to an uninspiring Macclesfield side.

Recommended Bet: Crewe to win at 23/20 with Ladbrokes – BET HERE

Exeter City vs Lincoln City

One of the ties of the footballing weekend in England comes at St James Park when table toppers Lincoln City, undefeated in their last five matches, take on third place Exeter City – one of the most free-scoring sides in the fourth division. The two sides have been in emphatic form and are separated by just three points and a win for either side could see the gap very much increase at the top of become ever closer in the race for promotion to League One. Both sides were knocked out of the EFL Cup in midweek by higher league opposition, but have remained in excellent form in their league campaign’s. Lincoln are one of only a few unbeaten sides in the division, whilst the hosts were beaten 1-0 by another division rival in MK Dons. We are expecting a free-flowing game here with plenty of goals and we fancy the draw in this game between two top sides.

Recommended Bet: The match to be drawn at 23/10 with Sky Bet – BET HERE

Grimsby Town vs Yeovil

Grimsby Town return back to Blundell Park to face seventh place Yeovil Town on Saturday afternoon, with two sides in contrasting form. Town look like a relegation threatened side, whilst Yeovil’s recent form, which has seen them pick up seven points from nine, has seen the side in yellow fly up to the playoff places. Neither side will be keen on losing this game for different reasons, but the game is expected to be an exciting one, which is often the case from their recent ties in previous years. The home side look like genuine strugglers this term, but we fancy them to turn around their poor form with a home win over Yeovil to lift them up the fourth tier.

Recommended Bet: Grimsby to win at 6/4 with BetVictor – BET HERE

Mansfield Town vs Carlisle United

Mansfield Town host high-flying Carlisle United at Field Mill stadium on Saturday afternoon as both sides look to continue their unbeaten fourth tier form by picking up yet more points against one another. Carlisle have won their last three, edging out Cheltenham, Port Vale and Crew by a goal, but Mansfield have looked particularly strong in defence this term. Conceding just four goals. United will have to use their fire power in attack against Mansfield to stand a chance of winning, but we are backing the hosts to pick up all three points here, with recent displays having been more than convincing in suggesting Town can mount a challenge for the playoffs this campaign.

Recommended Bet: Mansfield to win at 11/10 with Bet 365 – BET HERE

Northampton Town vs Tranmere Rovers

Northampton Town host Tranmere Rovers at Sixfields Stadium, with the home side returning to their own after back-to-back games on the road, where they picked up three points out of six. The two teams have not met since 2015, where the corresponding fixture ended in a 1-0 win for the hosts, but Tranmere look to be in better form as of late and sit just two places outside of the playoff places on goal difference. Both sides are coming of the back of a win in the league, but we are backing the home side to emulate their last meeting with Rovers with a win over Micky Mellon’s side.

Recommended Bet: Northampton to win at 6/5 with Sky Bet – BET HERE

Notts County vs Forest Green Rovers

Forest Green travel to Meadow Lane to face Notts County off the back of four bizarre results this season. Rovers have drawn their last four matches, something which is rarely seen and the away side remain unbeaten, despite sitting 13th in League Two. The hosts are rock bottom of the league and look to be the side likely to drop out of the English Football League this season after four losses and just one draw. The sides met twice last season, where County came out the happier of the two with four points – but we make the unbeaten away side our pick to win this game here, especially because of County’s dismal run of ties.

Recommended Bet: Forest Green to win at 7/4 with BetVictor –  BET HERE

Oldham vs Crawley Town

Boundary Park and Oldham host a Saturday fixture against Crawley Town this weekend, with the home side looking to continue their fine run of being undefeated in four matches. Oldham’s most impressive win this season came last time out when they travelled to Morecambe and won 2-0, four days after recording a 0-0 draw with Yeovil Town. Crawley sit in 14th in the division, but won their last game at home to Bury in a five-goal thriller, ending in 3-2 to Town. However, Crawley have picked up just three points on the road all season, with a 1-0 win away to Cheltenham and we make the hosts our pick to win here.

Recommended Bet: Oldham to win at 5/4 with Bet 365 – BET HERE

Port Vale vs Newport County

Port Vale host Newport County at Vale Park this weekend, as the in-form travelling side look to make it five matches undefeated in the league against a Port Vale side in poor form. The hosts sit 15th, with just six points from a possible 30 this season and Neil Aspin’s side have lost their last two. The sides have only met twice in recent history, with both games having ended in a draw. Vale have certainly failed to inspire with their performances on the pitch and we make Newport our pick for the win, after a total of five matches unbeaten in all competitions, prior to their loss to Oxford United in midweek.

Recommended Bet: Newport County to win at 13/8 with Sky Bet – BET HERE

Stevenage vs Cambridge United

Stevenage host a Cambridge United side flirting with relegation from the English Football League in the opening five games of the 2018/19 campaign. The home team were undefeated in four prior to their recent loss away to Yeovil, whilst United have just one win and one draw in five games, recording three losses along their way. The travelling side hold the cards in their recent head-to-head fixtures, with a 2-0 win in the corresponding tie last season and a 1-0 win on their own patch in the back end of last year. However, on the evidence of their early season showings and not just the results, we make Stevenage our pick to take maximum points over a Cambridge side without a win in five.

Recommended Bet: Stevenage to win at 23/20 with Ladbrokes – BET HERE

Swindon Town vs Milton Keynes Done

The final fixture of the sixth instalment of games in League Two this week is between Swindon Town, a side undefeated in their last three matches and MK Dons, a side who have gone an emphatic 23 games without a loss. The game is very much battle of the undefeated records, which should make for an enjoyable tie. Dons are going for promotion back to the third division this season and currently sit in second place just two points behind table toppers Lincoln City. Dons have won four of the last five meetings between the sides and we are backing Paul Tisdale’s side to make it 24 games undefeated and six undefeated against their opponents with yet another win on the road this weekend.

Recommended Bet: MK Dons to win at 7/5 with Sky Bet – BET HERE
