League Two Round-Up: 17/11/2018

Bury vs Stevenage

League Two action returns this weekend for the 18th round of matches and one of the intriguing ties from Saturday comes from Gigg Lane as hosts Bury take on Stevenage as both teams look to win this one to earn a place in the playoffs. The sides last met in 2015 and it was Bury who extended their unbeaten run to four matches and a win for the home team here is 6/11 with Bet365. However, it’s the visitors Stevenage who sit eighth in the division after back-to-back wins over Cheltenham and Oldham in League Two and at a price of 5/1 with Unibet to win here, they look like a good bet. The draw for the second time in as many meetings is 29/10 with William Hill – which could also be a good selection.

Recommended bet: Stevenage to win 2-1 @ 17/1 with BetVictor – BET HERE

Crewe vs Tranmere

Crewe take on the impressive Tranmere at the Alexandra Stadium on Saturday as the hosts go in pursuit of only their sixth victory of the campaign to take them up and away from their poor position of 18th in the table. Tranmere on the other hand are currently fourth in the league after eight wins and six draws from 17 matches and another win here is an attractive 15/11 with William Hill, whilst the draw is 12/5 with Unibet. Crewe last won on home soil back in late-October, but the strugglers are still 19/10 to win here with Bet Victor. Perhaps they head into this one at a good price after their recent 4-3 win back in September in the reverse fixture in the EFL Trophy. On the basis of that epic match and with three of their last four meetings ending with at least three goals, we are backing over 2.5 goals here.

Recommended bet: Over 2.5 goals @ 12/11 with Betfair – BET HERE

Exeter vs Northampton

Saturday afternoon football returns to St James Park on Saturday afternoon as the impressive hosts Exeter go in pursuit of a ninth win of the season against an in-form Northampton to put an end to their four-game winless drought. That run without three points has seen the side who looked like the obvious contenders for automatic promotion, alongside Lincoln, drop into fifth – but a win here, which is odds of 3/2 with Betway, would get them back on track. However, after three-straight wins in the fourth-tier, Northampton are 9/5 with William Hill to win and look a good bet to do so after their last away game in the division ended in a 5-0 victory over Macclesfield. However, despite the visitors being in the better form – we are backing a similar result to the last meeting and we are picking the draw in this one.

Recommended bet: The match to be drawn @ 23/10 with Bet365 – BET HERE

Forest Green vs Morecambe

Forest Green Rovers will be looking to bounce back with a win on their return to The New Lawn this weekend after back-to-back losses in the league against table toppers Lincoln ad in the EFL Trophy to Arsenal’s youth side. The host play Morecambe, another side coming into this off the back of a 1-0 loss to Sunderland and a side who are struggling in the division in 20th. Forest Green have dropped down into ninth and nine draws has prevented them from pushing into the playoff spots, but a win here for them is 4/7 with Unibet, whilst their tenth draw of the season is an attractive price of 3/1 with Bet365. Morecambe actually won their last game in the league, beating Yeovil 2-1 at home and come into this one as 11/2 outsiders with Bet365. However, after both teams failed to score in their last match and with Morecambe not scoring in two – we think this tie could be a poor one for the neutral and one which includes less than three goals.

Recommended bet: Under 2.5 goals @ 6/7 with William Hill – BET HERE

Grimsby vs Crawley

League Two football returns to Cleethorpes this week as strugglers Grimsby look to build on a positive performance in the EFL Trophy against another struggling side at Blundell Park as they take on Crawley. Grimsby were beaten by Premier League Newcastle’s youth side in their domestic cup campaign, but a 3-2 scoreline was demonstrative of their new-found ability to attack and the home fans will be hoping that can resurface on Saturday afternoon. Crawley sit in 12th, well away from the dreaded drop zone – but a slump in form has their fans worried and a five-game winless streak will be one that the visitors hope to put to an end – with that result priced at 17/10 with Bet Victor. A win for Grimsby at their home ground, where they have looked a threat in patches, is an attractive 13/8 with Betfair, whilst the draw is 23/10 with the same bookmaker.

Recommended bet: Ollie Palmer to score first @ 4/1 with SkyBet – BET HERE

Mansfield vs Port Vale

One of the in-form sides from England’s top four divisions return to their home stadium this weekend as a resurgent Mansfield look to continue their excellent run with a win over Port Vale – a side struggling just below mid-table. Mansfield are unbeaten in a huge 13 matches and won their last against League One opposition in the EFL Trophy, beating Scunthorpe 3-2. Port Vale also beat third-tier opposition in the same competition – beating Walsall 2-1 away from home in the result of the season for this weekend’s visitors. Another win for Vale is a huge price of 6/1 with Bet365 here, whilst the hosts are obvious 1/2 favourites with the same bookmaker after a terrific run. The draw is 3/1 with Unibet – but an undefeated streak in their campaign, as well as a three-game undefeated streak against Port Vale is our reasoning for backing a comfortable home win.

Recommended bet: Mansfield to win 3-1 @ 13/1 with BetVictor – BET HERE

MK Dons vs Macclesfield

The impressive MK Dons return to Stadium MK this weekend in what looks like one of the most one-sided ties of the weekend on paper against a Macclesfield side rock bottom of the division. That is evident in the odds for both sides to win here, with the hosts 4/11 with William Hill and the visitors at a huge 10/1 with Bet 365 – whilst the unlikely draw is 17/4 with Betway. The hosts are on their charge to the top of the table and will be desperate to grab three points to stay with table toppers Lincoln – whilst Macclesfield need a win to avoid a potential ten-point gap between themselves and the other relegation candidates. A loss for the side who are in the worst form of any side in the EFL would be disastrous and one which many think could be the loss to relegate them and after shipping a huge 35 goals in 17 matches, we struggle to see anything but a big win for the in-form Milton Keynes.

Recommended bet: MK Dons to win 4-0 @ 15/1 with BetVictor – BET HERE

Newport vs Colchester

Two of the top six clash at the Newport Stadium on Saturday as third-place Colchester hope to pick up their third-straight victory against a Newport side looking to put an end to a four-game streak without a win. The sides have met once already this year, with that tie ending in a 2-0 win for United in the reverse fixture. That was actually the second consecutive win for Colchester and another here is attractive odds of 7/5 with Bet365. County have never beaten their opponents, but this weekend is arguably their best chance after a strong season in the fourth tier and three points for the side in sixth is 9/5 with William Hill. The sides have met on four occasions, two of those games ending in draws and that is what we are backing here between two sides keen on defending.

Recommended bet: The match to be drawn @ 23/10 with William Hill – BET HERE

Notts County vs Cheltenham

Saturday afternoon fourth-tier football returns to Meadow Lane for a match which is known as the cliché ‘relegation six-pointer’ as 22nd place Notts County take on 23rd place Cheltenham. A win for either side is vital here, but the hosts are perhaps the side under pressure to win, with the visitors also having a game in hand on their opponents. However, the visiting Cheltenham are also three points behind County and three points would be priceless and is priced at 2/1 with William Hill. County picked up an impressive 4-2 victory over League One Doncaster in the EFL Trophy on Tuesday, but haven’t won in five League Two matches – yet are still the favourites here at 11/8 with Bet Victor. The draw is 23/10 with Unibet, but we see the in-form Cheltenham picking up the vital victory here.

Recommended bet: Cheltenham double chance @ 4/7 with Betway – BET HERE

Oldham vs Cambridge United

Oldham play Cambridge at Boundary Park in the 18th instalment of fourth-tier football as the visitors go in pursuit of their fourth-straight win to move them up and away from the dreaded bottom two. Oldham last won a match in League Two four games ago, but will be looking to build on their recent 0-0 draw with Notts County, knowing a win could get them as high as 11th in the table. A win for the hosts is 5/6 with Bet365, whilst the visitors to win is 29/10 with William Hill. However, after neither side have looked in a free-scoring mood across the season, we are backing a low-scoring draw here.

Recommended bet: Under 2.5 goals @ 3/4 with Betfair – BET HERE

Swindon vs Carlisle

The Country Ground is the host of only the fourth meeting between hosts Swindon and visitors Carlisle in four years as Swindon look to continue their two-game unbeaten streak against their opponents. The home team played an FA Cup tie against York last weekend, beating the opposition 2-1 and the same result here is decent odds of 9/8 with Unibet, whilst the draw is 5/2 with Bet Victor. Carlisle have been the better side this term, winning seven matches in 17 and also drawing two – but just one win in their last five League Two matches has seen them drop down into mid-table. However, a win in the FA Cup away from home against Crewe and a two-game unbeaten streak on the road – we think United are great value to get back on track with an important three points here.

Recommended bet: Carlisle to win @ 23/10 with William Hill – BET HERE
