Liverpool vs Everton

Sunday’s bumper afternoon of Premier League football concludes at Anfield, as Liverpool play host to Merseyside rivals Everton in a huge game for both teams. The Reds will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing 2-1 defeat to PSG in the Champions League, while Everton come into the game having picked up seven points from a possible nine in the Premier League.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was a frustrated figure in Paris on Wednesday night, after watching his team produce another lacklustre away performance in the Champions League. It was the third time the team have tasted defeat on the road in Europe this season, now losing four on the bounce away in this competition.

However, they haven’t had such issues in the Premier League this term, having won four of their last five games. In total, they have 10 wins and three draws from 13 games, trailing leaders Manchester City by just two points at the top of the table.

City are also the only side to have come away with anything from Anfield this season in six games, with the Reds winning all of their other five matches in front of the Kop, conceding just one goal in doing so. That form certainly bodes well for them here, particularly when you combine it with the fact that Everton haven’t won at Anfield since 1999.

The recent history behind this fixture perhaps weighs into the odds of the game, with Liverpool being heavy favourites to win here at 2/5 with SkyBet. Mohamed Salah has scored four goals in his last three appearances at Anfield in all competitions and opened the scoring in this fixture last term. He is priced at 31/10 with BetVictor to score first in this one.

Everton are showing signs of real improvement under Marco Silva this season, having started to progress and develop under his style. The Toffees have taken seven points from their last three matches, doing so with a point away at Chelsea and home victories over Brighton and Cardiff.

Admittedly, the home games are ones you’d expect them to win, but they showed great resolve at Stamford Bridge to hold Chelsea to a 0-0 draw. Their recent form has now seen them climb up to 6th in the Premier League table, rising above Manchester United in the table in doing so and are only six points off the top four.

A top-seven finish was the target for the team at the start of the season, but they could now be aiming for more after a positive run. In midfield, Andre Gomes has been outstanding for Everton in recent weeks and will be one of the players they rely on to get on the ball along with Gylfi Sigurdsson, with the midfield battle likely to be key in this one. Everton have had some torrid times at Anfield in recent years, with it being almost 20 years since their last victory across Stanley Park.

Everton certainly come into this game as underdogs, being priced at 8/1 with Bet365 to pick up three points. They have kept just one clean sheet in six games away from home so far this term and have conceded two goals on four occasions. Over 1.5 Liverpool goals is fancied in this one at 4/9 with Bet365.
