Liverpool vs Porto Betting Preview – 09/04/2019

Liverpool vs Porto

Liverpool and FC Porto go head to head on Tuesday night for their first leg clash in the quarter finals of the Champions League, with kick off set for 8pm. Both sides are enjoying good seasons in their respective leagues, with Liverpool competing for the Premier League title and FC Porto sitting atop the Portuguese Primeira Liga. The two last met during the 2017/2018 Champions League campaign, where the Reds knocked their opponents out by five goals to nil over two legs. Jurgen Klopp will know that the visitors will be out for revenge in this one, which makes this matchup very interesting for the neutral.

Liverpool have had a season to remember, regardless of what happens in the coming weeks and months. They are challenging for their first league title since the Premier League era began and look ready to make a real push to take home a Champions League gold medal, with fans truly believing in the club once again. Their recent form has been magnificent, winning each of their last five outings in all competitions, including a last 16 elimination of German giants Bayern Munich in the previous round. Jurgen Klopp’s men have won 2-1 in two of their last three games, and Bet365 have them to win by that same scoreline at 7/1.

Mohamed Salah scored his first goal for two months in Liverpool’s victory over Southampton last weekend, so the Egyptian star should be full of confidence again heading into this all important tie. He currently tops the scoring charts at the club with eighteen league goals and one Champions League striker, with Paddy Power offering 11/4 for the number eleven to hit the net on Tuesday. Sadio Mane has also been amongst the goals as of late, bagging in three of his last five matches, with Paddy Power having him at 7/2 to do the same at Anfield in this one. Liverpool are expected to advance to the semi finals with relative ease, and Bet365 offer Liverpool to do just that at 1/7.

FC Porto’s form in recent weeks has been incredible, winning five of their last six games and drawing the other game. The Primeira Liga leaders have kept two clean sheets in their last four matches, and Paddy Power have odds of 16/1 for them to win to nil. After beating Feirense by two goals to one in the beginning of March, FC Porto then defeated Maritimo 3-0 on home soil six days later. A huge game versus Braga succeeded that result, with Porto coming out 2-3 victors in a dramatic ninety minutes. The pair took on one another again in the cup in their opening encounter of April, with the match ending 1-1 at full time but 1-4 in favour of Sergio Conceicao’s men on aggregate. Porto’s last outing went their way by two goals to nil when they met Boavista on Friday.

Tiquinho is the top-scorer at FC Porto with thirteen goals on the board, including three in his last three appearances for the club, so he will be very confident that he can add to his tally here. Behind him is Yacine Brahimi with eight, while Paddy Power have odds of 50/1 for defender Eder Militao to score his fourth of the season in this meeting. There have been over 2.5 goals in seven of Porto’s last nine games, with Bet365 giving odds of 4/6 for the match to have over 2.5 goals scored overall. Despite Porto coming into this one as underdogs, they will be ready and waiting to pounce on any mistake that Liverpool may make, with Bet365 offering 10/1 for the Portuguese outfit to come out on top.
