Lyon vs Manchester City Betting Preview – 27/11/18

Lyon vs Manchester City

The top two in Group F go head-to-head as Manchester City make the trip to France to take on Olympique Lyon. City were undone by their French opponents when the two teams met in the group opener.

Guardiola’s men head into this one knowing they can wrap up the group with a win having secured their place in the knockout stage in their last European outing. Lyon can take a big step towards qualifying for the Round of 16 with a win. Lyon know that two wins from their last two games will win them the group.

Lyon welcome the Premier League leaders to the Groupama Stadium with their Champions League campaign hanging in the balance. They are three points ahead of Hoffenheim and four ahead of Shakhtar as things stand but defeat here could leave them needing a big result in their last game to progress. On the flip side, they may fancy themselves to beat City having done so in the return game. If they manage that, then they can win the group with a win in their last game. Even a draw here could give them a chance of winning the group on head-to-head should City slip up in their last game. A draw in any case would give Lyon a great chance of progressing with a head-to-head lead over Hoffenheim on goal difference.

Lyon are currently second in Ligue 1 and that’s about as good as they can hope for with PSG winning all of their 14 games so far. Lyon come into this one having won four of their last five league games, drawing the other. They are a team in good form and with the confidence from the win at the Etihad, they may fancy themselves to grab another win over City. They are at 7/1 with Betstars to achieve that. Bet365 are offering 9/2 on a draw.

Memphis Depay and Houssem Aouar lead the Lyon scoring charts with five goals apiece in the league. Depay is at 14/5 with Betway to score at any time here, while Aouar is at 11/2. Nabil Fekir has netted twice in the Champions League and twice in the league – he’s one to look out for here – and he’s at 7/2 with Betway to score as he did when these two teams met back in September.

Manchester City are on course for another memorable season, but they are likely to be pushed all the way this season with Liverpool hot on their tails, just two points behind in the Premier League. The Champions League is another competition in which City are desperate to impress in, and they are going the right way about it, putting the Lyon defeat behind them to win three on the bounce, establishing a three-point lead at the top of the group. Four points from their next two games will wrap up the group and from there, they’ll need a little luck in the draw.

City are looking unstoppable, but they only time they’ve lost this season was against Lyon, so they will be wary of the threat their French opponents pose coming into this one. Despite that and being away from home, City will be confident of making it nine wins on the bounce in all competitions with another win here. City are at 4/9 with Betfair to win. City found it difficult to keep Lyon’s sharp front-line out when the teams last met, so it may be worth backing a both teams to score City win at 6/4 with Betfred.

Sergio Aguero comes into this one in red-hot form having scored eight in the league and once in the Champions League. The Argentine is 10/3 to open the scoring with Bet Victor. Raheem Sterling has scored eight times in all competitions and he’s at 13/10 with Black Type to score at any time. David Silva has scored in each of his last four games and he’s worth backing at 11/4 with Unibet to add to that fine run of form with another goal. Sane at 9/4 is another good option.
