Manchester City vs Fulham Betting Preview – 01/11/2018

Manchester City vs Fulham

An intriguing tie in the EFL Cup comes from the Etihad Stadium on Thursday evening as Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City return to their home patch to take on Slaviša Jokanović’s Fulham in an all-Premier League domestic cup tie.

The Round of 16 match will decide which of the two sides reach the quarter-final stage of the competition and the hosts, who go into the tie as strong 1/11 favourites with Betway, will be looking to go one step closer to retaining their trophy they won earlier this year when they beat Arsenal 3-0 at the home of football, Wembley Stadium.

Manchester City’s season so far has been sensational once again under their Spanish manager Guardiola. The former Barcelona boss currently top the Premier League table after an unbeaten start to their title defence, but their UEFA Champions League success did include a slight bump in the road when they were beaten by Lyon at the Etihad. As was the same last term, the blue side of Manchester have been banging the goals in, with nine goals in their last three matches in all competitions – which included a 5-0 victory over Burnley in their last home match. Over 3.5 goals here, which we think could happen, is priced at an attractive 8/11 with Betfair, whilst over 4.5 goals is 13/8 with Paddy Power. City’s last game saw them overcome Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 at Wembley and another win here will take them one step closer to returning to the stadium they have an outstanding record of playing at.

Spearheading their attacks this term has been none other than Sergio Aguero, who has six goals in 10 in the English top-flight and the Argentine to score first here is 9/4 with Sky Bet. Fringe striker Gabriel Jesus will be vying for a start in this one and with City’s Premier League and Champions League schedule heating up, the Brazilian is a likely starter and a goal in 90 minutes for Jesus is 4/9 with Sky Bet.

Other potential good bets for City here come in the form of the hosts to win both halves, which they have done in their last three domestic home games and that selection can be found at 4/11 with Paddy Power. A win to nil for Guardiola’s side is an attractive 4/6 with Sky Bet, whilst a potential win and both teams to score is 6/4 with the same bookmaker.

Jokanović’s Fulham came into this season off the back of their Championship playoff win at Wembley with aspirations of finishing in a respectable position in their return to the top-flight, whilst also potentially going on a cup-run this term. Their first division campaign has been a struggle with Thursday’s travelling side now 18th in the division and in the dreaded drop zone. However, their hopes of a successful cup campaign still remain, but they face a tough task against the side they have already lost to in the corresponding tie this season in the Premier League.

That game finished 3-0 to City, but Fulham will be desperate to look more threatening here and a win is a huge 33/1 with Bet 365, whilst a draw which could take the two sides into extra time and potentially penalties is 21/2 with Bet Victor. Arguably Fulham’s best hopes are staying defensively compact to get themselves into a potential penalty shootout and a win from spot kicks can be priced at 16/1 with Sky Bet.

However, Fulham’s defensive record has been horrendous this term and a huge 15 goals conceded in their last four, all of which ended in defeats suggest they will struggle here. At the heart of a potential turnaround will be English central defender Alfie Mawson and Timothy Fosu-Mensah, whilst at the other end Aleksandar Mitrovic will be hoping to add to what has been a good campaign for the Serbian so far. The former Newcastle United man to score anytime here is 5/1 with Bet 365, whilst the target man to score the first goal is 20/1 with the same bookmaker.
