Portsmouth vs Charlton Athletic

Table toppers Portsmouth take on Charlton in League One on Tuesday night. This match was rearranged due to Charlton exercising their right to change the date because they had three players on international duty. Pompey have the opportunity to go nine points clear at the top of the table while Charlton will move into the play-off positions if they avoid defeat.

Portsmouth are having a brilliant season under manager Kenny Jackett. They are looking certainties for promotion as they lead the League One table by six points with a game in hand. It was another routine home win on Saturday as they cruised past Southend. Leading scorer Jamal Lowe scored his eighth goal of the season to double their lead after a Michael Turner own goal put the hosts ahead after 12 minutes.

Portsmouth are priced up as 3/4 favourites to win against the Addicks. They are in imperious form at the moment, winning their last four games and have not been beaten since the beginning of October. Jackett has got Pompey playing football on the front foot but has them secure at the back, conceding just 15 goals all season which is the fewest in the division. Only two teams in League One have scored more home goals than Portsmouth this season and they look a class above at the moment and will take some stopping.

Charlton travel to Fratton Park facing an unenviable task of getting a result at the league leaders. Lee Bowyer’s men have a quick turnaround after their 2-1 defeat to Blackpool. It was a late winner by Nathan Delfouneso that ended Charlton’s four game winning run and put the Seasiders level on points with the Addicks. Armand Gnanduillet put Blackpool ahead after 16 minutes but Joe Aribo equalized 10 minutes after the restart to level things up. The away side had chances to win it but Delfouneso swept home to seal victory for the Tangerines.

Charlton are 10/3 to win at Fratton Park, which might appeal to some. They had won their previous two away games before their loss to Blackpool, however they have picked up 20 of their 34 points at the Valley and only won two of their last six on the road. Bowyer has the tough task of rotating his men and keeping his men fresh with games coming thick and fast. They were able to win at Portsmouth in April last season but Pompey are a different kettle of fish this season and are in a fantastic run of form.
