Rangers vs Aberdeen

Steven Gerrard’s Rangers return to Scottish Premiership action with a match against Aberdeen at Ibrox Stadium on Wednesday evening. The hosts climbed to the top of the table last weekend, but now is not a time for complacency against a more than capable visiting side who have looked good in patches this term, despite their current position of seventh. The teams have twice met already this season and it was Aberdeen who ran out 1-0 winners in the reverse tie in the Betfred Cup, whilst the league match back in August ended in a 1-1 draw.

Gerrard’s Rangers won’t need much more warning ahead of this match against Aberdeen after playing their opponents twice and failing to beat them on either occasion. The Ger’s are the favourites here though at 4/7 with Bet 365 and rightly so, after the Scottish giants made their way to the top of the table after beating Hearts 2-1 away from home last weekend. The hosts are also on a three-game winning streak and all of those matches have seen over 2.5 goals scored – and that bet here is 4/5 with William Hill. Their most recent match at home in the league ended in a 3-0 win and the same score here is 12/1 with Bet Victor, whilst the clean sheet is 11/8 with Sky Bet.

Leading the line here will be Colombian talisman Alfredo Morelos and after scoring nine goals in 14 matches this season, the 22-year-old to score first is a good bet at 3/1 with Sky Bet. Kyle Lafferty is also a threat and has shown that with his three goals and the former English Football League striker is 9/2 to score first and 11/8 to score anytime – both with Bet365. James Tavernier has been a constant threat from full-back this season and the 27-year-old is 8/1 with Ladbrokes to score first and to score his seventh goal of the campaign.

Former Rangers player Derek McInnes has had a tough start with Aberdeen so far this term and the visitors sit seventh in the table after 13 matches. However, a recent three-game win streak will see the visitors remaining confident and their odds of 4/1 to win with Unibet might be a good bet here – especially after they won the tie the last time these two sides met. The draw here is also a big price at 10/3 with William Hill and after the away side to score a goal here is a bet we like at 8/15 with Sky Bet. A recent 1-0 loss in the final of the Betfred Cup last weekend against Rangers’ rivals Celtic will be something McInnes will have to ensure his side bounce back from and a 3-0 loss the last time Aberdeen featured in the Scottish Premiership against Motherwell will also be something they have to forget.

Spearheading the Aberdeen attacks here will be former Manchester United striker James Wilson. The 23-year-old forward is big odds of 9/1 to score first here with Bet365, whilst his teammate Sam Cosgrove proves to be a constant threat this season and he is 4/1 to score anytime here – also with Bet365. Other standout bets we like for this match include both teams to score in the match, which is 4/5 with Betway and Aberdeen double chance at an attractive 5/4 with Bet Victor.
