Salford City vs Shrewsbury Town

Shrewsbury Town, who are currently seeking a new manager, head to Salford City on Wednesday night for an FA Cup First Round replay which has giant-killing written all over it. A 1-1 draw at New Meadow earlier this month ensured the National League side has another shot at claiming the scalp of a club who have had their fair share of FA Cup success down the years. The Non-League side go into this game unbeaten since August 11 and Coral currently offers odds of 17/10 for Graham Alexander’s men to claim another notable scalp on Wednesday. Salford warmed-up for this game with a 4-0 thrashing of Aldershot Town on Saturday whilst Shrewsbury, with Goalkeeping Coach Danny Coyne in temporary charge, beat Rochdale in a five-goal thriller.

Salford City remains unbeaten at home this season having scored in every match so far in all competitions. Their recent history is well documented and although the priority is for Alexander to lead them into the Football League next season, they will be desperate to beat the Shrews and set up another home tie against Scunthorpe United in round two.

Striker Adam Rooney is the club’s top goalscorer so far this term having scored 16 in all competitions and Paddy Power price him at 6/4 to be on target during 90 minutes on Wednesday. For the home side to come out on top and for both teams to score, there’s value in Coral’s 17/4 when you consider that Alexander’s side has only had two shutouts in front of their own fans this term.

Shrewsbury Town striker Fejiri Okenabirhie won the plaudits after notching up his first goal for the club against Rochdale and Paddy Power has him as a 15/2 shot to be on target on Wednesday. This cup tie could be be Coyne’s last game in charge with reports suggesting the Shropshire outfit has contacted former boss Paul Hurst, recently sacked by Ipswich Town, asking him to return to the club who he led to a League One play-off final last season.

The Shrews have won their last two matches on the road against AFC Wimbledon and Crewe Alexandra (Football League Trophy) and whatever happens in the next week or so, Coyne has bought stability to the team as they look to pull away from the relegation zone in Sky Bet League One. One thing they be looking to improve on is their defence having failed to keep a clean sheet since early October.
