Sheffield Wednesday vs Luton Town Betting Preview – 05/01/2019

Sheffield Wednesday vs Luton Town

Luton Town will attempt to claim the scalp of Championship side Sheffield Wednesday this Saturday in the Third Round of the FA Cup at the Hillsborough Stadium. After a troublesome couple of months, the Owls have appointed Steve Bruce as their new manager hoping to find more success and seeing off their League One opponent will be his assistants Steve Agnew and Stephen Clemence’s first task. Luton have knocked out both Wycombe and Bury to get here, but this will certainly be their toughest game of the competition yet. These sides have not met since 2007 where Luton took the victory winning 3-2 and Sheffield Wednesday have not beaten their opponents since 1992.

The Owls find themselves down in 16th place after 26 games and had been much higher in the table, but a poor spell of form throughout October and November saw them drop multiple places. Steve Bruce will be aiming to kick off his career at Sheffield Wednesday with a win and as expected they do arrive as favourites to take the win with odds of 5/4 with Bet365. Wednesday do arrive in some of their better form which has seen them go four games without a loss and managed to keep clean sheets in two of those games. SkyBet have Sheffield to keep a clean sheet priced at 2/1.

Wednesday have not been one of the highest scoring sides in the league with just 32 scored and have continued to struggle during their last five games which have seen them find the back of the net just five times. Although they come up against a lower league side you may fancy them to struggle in front of goal once again and can back Sheffield to score under 1.5 goals at 13/20 with Betway. Lucas João is the club top goalscorer with eight goals, but the forward is unlikely to appear on Saturday after picking up an injury. The Owls will look to Adam Reach who has seven goals this season and can be backed at 9/4 with Bet365.

Nathan Jones will be expecting a tough game this weekend and his Luton Town outfit will have to be at the top of their game to have a chance of progressing in the competition. Due to Luton’s success in League One this season they are only just priced as underdogs to take the victory and can be backed with SkyBet at 2/1. The travelling side arrives in great form with their last loss coming a huge 14 games ago and along the way, have secured 30 points from ten wins.

The Hatters are undefeated in their last 13 games, but their previous two fixtures have ended in draws and you can back this cup clash to end in a stalemate at 5/2 with Bet365. When it comes to goals for Luton they can look to either James Collins or Elliot Lee who both have ten goals apiece this season. Collins can be backed to score anytime at 7/4 with Bet365, while his fellow teammate Elliot Lee can be backed to score at 15/8 – also with Bet365.
