Sweden vs Russia Betting Preview – 20/11/2018

Sweden vs Russia

The curtain closes on the Nations League group phase in League B, Group 2 on Tuesday evening as Sweden need an all-important win against Russia to progress in the first year of this competition’s existence. The Russians will be hoping they can also come away from the Friends Arena in Stockholm with a win, but even a draw would be enough to see them through in this one. The Swedes come into this one off the back of a win and three games undefeated, whilst Russia lost in an international friendly last time out, but prior to that found themselves on a four-game unbeaten run. These two teams have met once in this competition already, with the reverse fixture ending 0-0 – but it’s Russia who hold all the cards here having not been beaten by Sweden since 1994.

Sweden have had an up and down campaign in the Nations League since their World Cup exit to the hands of England back in July – winning one game against Turkey last time out and also drawing and losing a game. However, Janne Andersson’s side know a win here would be enough to see them through and that result is odds of 10/11 with Bet365. If that result is going to be back, a clean sheet at 6/5 with Sky Bet could also be a wise bet considering last eight wins have all been accompanied by a shutout at the back. None of the last six head-to-head meetings between the pair have seen the sides manage to accumulate over 2.5 goals in the match and we like the look of under 2.5 goals in this one at 3/5 with Bet365.

Looking to get his Swedish side an important victory in the Swedish capital will be the impressive Andreas Granqvist, who scored from the spot in his teams’ win against Turkey and the midfielder to bag across the 90 minutes here is 4/1 with Sky Bet. Also threatening in the hosts’ squad will be the impressive striker Marcus Berg and veteran John Guidetti – both of which are 6/4 and 2/1 respectively to score in 90 minutes here also with Sky Bet.

Stanislav Cherchesov’s Russia were brilliant in this year’s World Cup on home soil, surpassing expectations to reach the quarter-final stages before being knocked out by finalists Croatia in a devastating penalty shoot-out back in July. However, their woes from a disappointing exit on the biggest footballing stage in world football haven’t seeped into their Nations League campaign like it could’ve so easily done and an unbeaten campaign in their group means a draw would be enough to see them through into next year’s knockout stage. The draw here is odds of 5/2 – but Cherchesov won’t be content in setting his side up for the point and the win here is odds of 10/3 – both priced with Bet365.

Russia’s main players who will be hoping to spearhead a potential win here come in the form of the impressive Denis Cheryshev, who has two goals in this competition for his country and Fedor Smolov, who played an integral part in Russia’s impressive World Cup. Smolov to find the net first in this one is 13/2 with Sky Bet and with Cheryshev potentially set to miss out with injury, it could be down to Smolov to score the game-changing goals in this one. Russia’s last three wins have all included at least two goals and the visitors to score two in this one is attractive odds of 3/1 with Sky Bet.
