Tottenham Hotspur vs Inter Milan Betting Preview – 28/11/2018

Tottenham Hotspur vs Inter Milan

It’s a must-win for Tottenham on Wednesday evening as they host Inter Milan at Wembley. Three points would take them level with the Italian giants going into the final group match, giving them a real chance of qualification to the knockouts after their slow start. But anything less would see them out of the top two, and quite possibly into the Europa League.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men put in an all-round solid performance when they last met Inter in the group opener, but were undone by two late goals, bringing back memories of how they let their dominance slip against Inter’s Serie A rivals Juventus.

The positive thing for Tottenham is that they currently look a completely different team to that one in September. They’ve enjoyed their best ever start to a Premier League season, but like Liverpool there was a sense they weren’t playing at their optimum level often enough.

At the San Siro in September, they were missing Hugo Lloris and Dele Alli, whereas now they’re at full strength and in coming to game in-form, off five straight wins in all competitions. When they last met Inter, they went into the fixture following back-to-back defeats against Watford and Liverpool.

The 3-1 win over Chelsea at the weekend was Tottenham’s best performance of the season, underlining how good they can be when the quartet of Harry Kane, Son Heung-Min, Christian Eriksen and Alli are fit and firing, while Moussa Sissoko’s reinvention in the centre of midfield has been a revelation.

Draws tend not to happen to Tottenham at Wembley, with just one home draw in all competitions in 2018. They’ve won 16 of their last 21 games on home soil, with five losses coming to Liverpool, Manchester City (twice), Juventus and Barcelona – some of the elite clubs of European football. Inter haven’t shown themselves to be at that level, and odds of 3/4 with Skybet are good for a home win. Tottenham have won five in a row, but kept just one clean sheet in those games: odds of 12/5 with Bet365 for both teams to score and a Tottenham win could be worth backing.

Luciano Spaletti’s Inter have put a shaky start behind them to put themselves in a comfortable position in Serie A. They’re nine points behind Juventus, but they’re an unassailable powerhouse and that should be no measure of their success. Third, with a comfortable six-point cushion in the top four, tells us that this is a team on course to meet its targets, especially as they’re in a strong position to qualify from the Champions League.

A point would see them qualify, while even a loss leaves them with a good chance of progressing, as they’d be left needing to better Tottenham’s result in the final game. Playing PSV while Tottenham play Barcelona would not be the worst position to be in.

It’s been eight wins from their last nine games in the league, keeping six clean sheets in that time and scoring twenty goals in that run. They were uncharacteristically sloppy in a 4-1 defeat at Atalanta just before the international break, but returned to normalcy as they breezed past Frosinone 3-0 on Saturday.

Mauro Icardi didn’t get on the scoresheet on Saturday, but the number nine had five in his previous six games for Inter and scored for Argentina over the international break, and already scored against Tottenham back in September. Unibet offer the best odds of 19/10 for the prolific striker to get on the scoresheet once again.
